Has anyone been using anything to speed up the smoothing out of their scars? I have started wearing silicone Patches at night and swabbing a silicone stick on each incision several times a day. When I had carpal tunnel release surgery a year and a half ago that was part of the post op physical therapy and my scars are non existent.

I've never heard of the Patches or sticks. Where did you get them from?

CVS online. I couldn't find them anywhere in person.

I swear by 100% shea butter. I bought it at a health food store. It's gotten rid of past scars for me and as soon as I am healed enought (just banded on the 30th) I plan on using it again!

I think I saw some at Walmart. I didn't know if they were any good so I got Mederma instead. I had carpal tunnel surgery right after banding and the doctor never mentioned therapy so my hand is still painful and swollen. Went to a new hand surgeon to see if it can be repaired and he set me up with PT and thinks it will be OK in a few more months, and was surprised that the first doctor had said nothing. Would have saved me weeks of pain and panic.

The PT people said most surgeons don't prescribe it but I am really glad mine did. They massage it both manually and ultrasound and help you strengthen your hands. They also do some pumping thing on your hands similar to what we had on our feet in the hospital following our lapband surgeries.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
