10 DAYS LATE ON PERIOD - is this normal after surgery?

Recommended Posts

Hi there Lady Bandsters... I was wondering if any of you ladies have experienced something similar to this. I had my surgery on May 20th 2010 - and had a completely normal cycle a week after surgery. However I was scheduled to start again on June 26th and ....NOTHING! I've heard a lack of nutrition can cause this, but I've been pretty good about my Vitamins and Protein etc... Is this fairly common or do I need to go grab a variety of EPTS?

HELP! :)

Hey there -

I was banded on 5/19. My period after surgery was 3 weeks late! I've read on other forums that this is common in the beginning. My guess is that our bodies have been going thru shock from extreme dieting (liquids) and surgery.

hmmmm.... well.. I was due the day before surgery and it never came. It came about 2 weeks after surgery and now has been coming every 3 or 4 days for about a half hour.... My body is VERY confused... I'll watch and see what others say too, because this has become quite inconvenient! Good luck

Thanks gals for the advice... As far as the waiting period to have have sex... the general rule of thumb is 3 to 4 days but I was actually only ONE day post op - we were very careful, and he did all the work but still.. haha just listen to your body, and be careful not to hurt yourself :)

It could be stress, but if it hasn't started yet, I would take a pregnancy test just to be on the safe side...

The same thing happened to me and I feaked out and bought a pregnancy test........it was false! I have heard that any major surgery is likely to cause our cycle to change.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
