I am on my count down. 10 days til surgery. My problem is this Im excited nervous scared worried and any other emotion you can think of. Is this normal? Ive wanted this for so long that I thought I would just be excited and be done with it but the closer my surgery date gets here the more I find to worry about. Like what if I mess up and dont chew my food enough or if I drink something while im eating. God knows I dont wanna get food stuck. Ive heard some horror stories. What if I go through all of this and dont lose any weight.Every thing is just swarming in my head, so much that I cant concentrate on other things. Somebody please tell me this is normal.:)

Take a deep breath! I'm 15 days till surgery and feeling the same way. One minute I'm excited about it, the next I'm terrified. The not loosing weight is what scares me most I think. Hang on we are almost there!

I totally understand. When I start freaking out I've got a good friend (and a few online friends!) that tell me to slow down and breath. Reading these boards and the blogs have been so helpful. So just take some time for yourself and read, read, read. :)

It's normal to feel this way, surgery no matter how big or small is very concerning, but once you arrive at the hospital everything goes quickly that before you know it your surgery is over and you're in recovery , and thinking wow all the time i spent worrying was for nothing , atleast thats the way i felt. So good luck to everyone on your surgeries.:)

Hello Layla's Grandmother;

My name is Hal and I was banded last thursday, 7/1. This has been a piece of cake. I know you cannot talk someone out of a fear. But knowledge eliminates fear. I don't know how long you have been reading the forum, but I read it since january. I read almost post. I read the surgery day stories. By the time I went in I was prepared. As a matter of fact I went in alone. My wife dropped me off on her way to work and I just went in.

Here is an assignment for you if you care to accept it.

Make a list of each of your worries, concerns, fears.

Write them down in the order of importance.

Then read the forum and research as much as you can about each issue you have. Yes you can post for input.

Then pretend your fear becomes true - for example you get stuck. What is the outcome? You caugh, it hurts, and it comes back up. You won't do that again.

There is nothing about the band that is dangerous - even the surgery. It is minimally invasive and is considered routine.

Now make a list of all the advantages you will gain.

No. 1 is that you will live long enough to see Layla's school plays, graduation, wedding and her own children.

You would run into a buring building to save Layla wouldn't you?

So now you have to do something else hard for her. If you do it for her and you it will give reason and strength to you.

Warm Regards

Hal

Just relax it will be ok. I am now 6 days post surgery and everything is going as well as can be expected and as of today I am 13 pounds down from my weight a week ago. Pain really has not been that bad and hunger has been little if non existent. I know this will get harder but excited about the good start. As for the surgery I had never had surgery before but everything has been very manageable and I havent had any pain meds for 2 days now and before then mainly taking to sleep at night. Also, have been going on long walks (2-3 miles) and have held up fine. Looking forward to going to gym next week and trying elliptical.

Good luck you are going to do great!!

OH YES! My surgery is scheduled for July 27th and I am having all of those feelings and more! I have been reading everything I can get my hands on, the good, the bad, AND the ugly, lol.

I am also doing the whole "I'm going on a diet, I must eat everything in sight" thing. This must stop.....I want a safe healthy surgery.

I have decided that I will go back on WW this week, and then go into a pre op diet that I got off these boards. (My Dr only gave me a diet for the day before surgery)

We will do just fine, all of us and to Hal, thanks so much for putting everything into prospective. I have a 3 week old granddaughter and I am much older than Layla's grandma so that all really hit home.

Good Luck to everyone :)

Tracy

I'll be 2 weeks post-op this Thursday and I can't tell you what a relief I felt 'on the other side'. Since I've had surgery I've had so many comments about how peaceful I am. Also my first day back to work (7 days post surgery) 3 people told me I was glowing --- not all of them knew I had been out for surgery so that was extra special. I struggled with fear, doubt, and questioning myself before hand. There was that voice in my head letting me know I'd be the ONLY person that medically this just can't work for. Lies, lies, lies. You got where you are because you WANT to be healthier and happier - now GO FOR IT!! Best of luck!!! Can't wait to hear how happy you'll be when it starts coming off! I started pre-op diet 6/5/10 and am down 24 lbs. Hoping you have OUTSTANDING SUCCESS!!!

@Hal. Thank you so much for responding to this thread. Your advice and suggestions is invaluable. I too, am scheduled for my lap band surgery on 7/14 and I'm a ball of nerves as well. I've chosen to only tell five people in my immediate circle of friends so it makes it a bit hard to talk with anyone about my feelings. I look forward to reading this forum as much as possible and appreciate everyone's comments and suggestions.

Hi, this is my first time here. My surgery date is 7/26/10 and this forum is a Godsend. After reading for a couple of days I've discovered... I'M NORMAL! Who would have thought? Today I found out my ekg is abnormal and I'll have to take stress tests. Just the fleeting thought that my surgery wouldn't happen, has given me a new perspective on how much I want this! I've realized everyone here is/was scared, anxious and worried! But just knowing I'm not alone w/these feelings is priceless! Thanks

I don't even have a surgery date, and I'm feeling all these emotions! I can't imagine how much more intense these feelings will be as my surgery date is set and then draws closer!

I've only told six people. I have two luncheon dates during my pre-op diet -- with people who don't know about my decision. I'm dreading them, but I'll come up with some solution!

Yes, Hal, thank you for responding to this thread. I'm going to do your exercise when my nerves hit fever pitch!

I had my surgery on April 7 and my emotions were like a rollercoaster! I had so many ups and down I was getting dizzy!

My surgery went fine and I have lost 53 pounds now. I was sure I would be the only person that the band would never work for. Happily, I was wrong.

The one thing that surprised me was the let down after surgery - I was so hyped up before that it seems like a the high should last forever, but I had some mood swings for a few weeks. Don't be surprised at that, if it happens to you. It takes a few weeks to heal and get back to normal - that includes emotionally.

Hang in there - it seems like it takes forever to get to surgery, but time flies by after you have it done. You have a whole new life waiting for you. Get ready - it is a whirlwind.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
