pre op diet questions (dehydration)

Recommended Posts

I'm on day 10 of my preop diet and I'm so sick to my stomach I can hardly keep anything down including Water. I threw up all lastnight and woke up sick this morning. I forced myself to drink a full glass of water, but I had to sip it slowly because I could just barely keep it down. Not to mention my digestive system is all messed up and not doing what it should be.

My preop diet consists of 2 Protein Shakes, (breakfast/lunch) and full Soup (not cream) for dinner. I can also have sugarfree Jello, pudding, yogurt and popsicles. About two days ago I became really sick of the jello, pudding etc. and haven't really been eating them.

I can barely finish my Protein shake this morning, I'm so thirsty, but it just makes me sick to drink. I've mostly been drinking crystal lite, and that's mostly what I threw up lastnight. :)

Did anyone else go through this dehydration? To boot, I twisted my ankle the first week on this diet, and now my ankle is just about healed I've pulled a muscle in my leg from walking funny while my ankle was twisted. These two weeks have been hell!

I was really excited about getting banded next Thurs. but now with the two weeks post op diet ahead of me I'm really just dreading it now :(

Keep up the good work.. remember it is not forever, make a calender and cross the days off. Think of all the weight you are losing while you are doing this. I have not started pre-op yet and not looking forward to it now.. ha ha. x

Stay with it. There is no doubt it is difficult. I to am on the liquid diet and have struggled with dehydration. I drink a lot of Powerade zero's and that seems to help me. Remember it doesn't last forever and before long you will be back to being yourself again. I am on my 8 day and there are days that I feel like doing nothing but sleeping. Hang in because you have support here.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
