I had LB surgery on the 24th of May and was scheduled for my 1st fill on the 6th of July. Mind you, during my 2nd post op visit I explained that I had zero restriction and was concerned about how much I could eat. I was told not to worry that during my July visit they would give me the max fill. I was notified this past Wednesday that my scheduled appt would be move back to the 26th of July. That's another 20 days in lapband limbo... I fumed about it all Wed night; Thursday I called them and let know that waiting until the 26th was just not going to work for me and that would come to their office and sit in the waiting room until I was seen. Well, guess what...they rescheduled me for the 7th of July. What do you think? Should I have done what I did or been a tad more patient?

That's just what I would have done.

Well the period between losing all the swelling from surgery and obtaining sufficient restriction from fills (commonly referred to as Bandster Hell) is tough. But you should know that very few people (although there are exceptions) achieve sufficient restriction from their first fill. Took me until fill 4 or 5 - each being 4 weeks apart.

I can certainly understand your being uneasy and wanting to get the process going - but a process it is. It will require a lot of patience along with trial and error.

Good luck!

Brad

Thats crazy that they wanted to make you so long! I got banded the 17th had pretty good restriction but went in for a small fill 4 days short of 4 weeks post op. My swelling must have went down a couple days after because I was starving, I tried sticking it out for two weeks and on the 2nd week i gained 2 pounds so I called and told them what was going on. They got me in that day for another fill!

Theres no reason to make you wait that long, glad you did what you did!

good job advocating for yourself! Yes you will need a lot of patience for this whole process, but you will also need to know your body and be it's advocate! So bravo to you!

I think you did fine. They are the ones who changed the appt. in the first place. If there was an opening sooner you should get it. Just be very nice when you go in and all will be fine. Make sure you set your next fill appt. while you are there. I would say don't make it any longer than 4 weeks from this one. If you do have good restriction you can always call and move it out a few weeks. I had very tight restriction for 9 months after my 2nd fill and that is when all my weight came off.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
