Chicagoland Lap Band Doc & Plastic Surgeon neeeded!!

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I am moving to Chicago in the next couple of weeks and was wondering if I could get any recommendations for lap band surgeons or centers to continue getting my fills.

Also, I am looking to get a Tummy Tuck in December and want to know of any plastic surgeon recommendation in the Chicagoland area.

Thanks for your help and advise!!

I can't say enough good things about Brian Lahmann at Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet. I don't know where you'll be living, but he is worth the drive. His partner, Christopher Joyce, is as good as he. The preop information, the postop aftercare, the staff---all terrific.

For plastic surgeons, I have not yet found one in Chicago or the Chicago burbs I'm sold on. There is one woman in Glenview (I think) who is also at U of C who looks promising, though. Her name escapes me, but I will let you know what I find out. I'm willing to travel for the right PS, so I'm not limiting my search to the Chicago area. My current frontrunner is in Houston.

Oops--I see you're already banded--that kind of changes things, if you just need a fill doc. I love Dr. Lahmann, and am happy to drive to see him. But I am not sure I'd do so if he hadn't done my surgery, and there were a decent fill center nearby.

Where in the area will you be living?

As I'm sure you know, Chicagoland is HUGE LOL!

Both my mom and I had our bands done at Northwestern Memorial hospital downtown. My mom had Dr. Eric Hungness and I had Dr. Alexander Nagle and we both were very happy. The surgeons and the nurse practitioner both do fills.

My mom had her PS (tummy tuck and breast reduction) done by Dr. John Kim also at Northwestern and she thinks he is the cat's meow. He works extensively with bariatric surgical patients.

Good luck and welcome to Chicago!

I used Dr. Vafa Shayani for banding and LOVED him! He has such a great bed side manner and always replies to emails and calls promptly. I would recommend him to anyone! Although I used him in the Rockford office, he has offices all over Chicago land. Check him out and I hope he's close for you and can help w/ fills.

I don't have much help as far as a plastic surgeon but if you find one let me know for future use

Thanks everyone!!! I am going to be living on the North side of chicago (near Evanston). I am going to have one more fill before I move up so that should last me until I choose one of your references! I'm willing to travel anywhere within IL for the right surgeon.

I'm willing to travel for plastic surgery too but with this new job starting, I don't want to take too much time away in Dec (2 weeks out of work tops). I honestly wish I could go with the Plastic surgeon through my orginial lap band office group in Virginia. I will check out the PS that some of you recommended and pray they are a good fit for me otherwise, I may have to make the trip back down here.

Thanks for the welcome! I'm orginially from Chicago so it's going to be sooooo GREAT to come back home PLUS I'm hoping to get my mom to go through the surgery too so I will be researching for the both of us!

Thanks again and if you have any more suggestions please fill free to let me know!

Mia26-

Synchrony in Oak Brook takes transfer patients and has plastic surgeons in the office. If, by chance, your surgery was done by Dr Pinnar in VA, there is a good relationship between the offices, also.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
