Is this Normal

Recommended Posts

I had my first fill on June 29th and with one egg for Breakfast this morning, I feel like someone is sitting on my chest. Is this normal? I've been feeling this way for about an hour now. Is it going to stop anytime soon?

OK, my egg came back up. I feel much better now. Does that mean that 1 egg was too much food to eat. I did eat slowly and chewed very well. Last night I had fish and salad with no problem. Whats the deal??

Sounds like you have pretty good restriction already! That's great! Or your stomach can be a bit swollen from the fill. Maybe try liquids, yogurt or pudding for a day and then try again. eggs should be a food that go down fairly well. Try to wait a minute or two between bites and see if that helps. Sometimes it's not just small bites and chewing well but giving your stomach a little time for it to register. I doubt if 1 egg was too much, you should be fine with that.

There are alot of us that can't do eggs anymore. Try smaller bites and if it happens again I would suggest passing on the eggs for awhile. As you go up in fills you will find that there are more foods that won't agree with you. Just remember do not swallow anything bigger then an M&M. And eat very slow. Take at least 25-30 chews before you swallow.

Sounds to me that you had your first stuck episode, congratulations! Welcome to band land. As Astrasmom said, many of us cannot eat eggs. When you do try again, chew well and take your time between bites.

As soon as you feel that pain, stop eating. Give it time to go down or come back up. Eating more will just add to the pain.

I tried eggs 3 times in 11 months and had VERY BAD results every time. I now accept the fact that I will NEVER eat another egg. Hard boiled, scrambled, fried, omlet.....they are all VERY EVIL! :)

Thanks for all the info ladies. It probably will be a while before I try eggs again.

It could also be that you are just too tight for an egg in the morning. I can't eat much of anything at breakfast but can handle an egg at lunch. Most people feel that the band loosens as the day goes on.

good luck,

Great point! There are a lot of foods that won't go down well when you start your day, but by lunch or dinner do just fine. Trial and error... Small bites and then wait a few minutes to see what happens before eating more.

Good luck!

You are absolutely correct on this. I have a hard time eating in the morning also. As the day goes on my band loosens and I'm able to eat easier. Great point!! Also ladies (Sorry to be a bit graphic) during that time of the month, you can experience a little more tightness also.

I agree with AnnieM... after fills I can go for several weeks with the band very tight and it's hard to find food I can eat. After a while it loosens up (settles in place?) and then I can eat more or less normally (the 'new normal'). I've also noticed it can be very restrictive in the morning so I'm careful to eat slowly. eggs are not a problem for me in general, but Peanut Butter is like glue.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
