Do you have a surgery card?

I have one, but i never use it. I just take a box home. I dont do buffets, and even if i did, i would pay the adult price. I got all i can eat, so i got my moneys worth.

I have the card, but I've never used it. It contains both medical jargon, and a statement that says 'this person can eat only small portions of food at a time (1/4 cup or 2 oz)' an it has my dr's name & phone# on the other side.

Usually if I eat out, I ask for a to-go box at the beginning of the meal and put 1/2 in the box, and eat whatever I can of what's left on my plate. No buffets.

My Doctor gave me one for meals also, but he also gave me one to show them when I fly. May come in handy someday...

I would be mortifies if I tried to use it and they denied me or looked at me with skeptisism.. I dont think I could be brave enough...

Nykee, I felt a little funny about it at first, but I got over it. Like I'm ever going to see those people again :-). And if I did try to use it and got an attitude from a restaurant manager or server, I would not be quiet about it :-).

I also enjoy leftovers, but when you are staying in a hotel leftovers are pretty worthless unless you have a refrigerator and a microwave in your room!!

And my card does have medical information on it as well, but it also says "this person has a very limited food intake". I never thought I would have the nerve to use it in a restaurant and originally kept it in my wallet because I didn't know if the band might set off the metal detectors in airports (I travel a lot!!). But I am glad I have it and will continue to use it often!!

Because bands do have metal parts and could set off a metal detector. At least that is what my surgeon told me. My mother broke her leg in April and they had to put a metal rod in her leg. She also has a card that she has to show in airports, because she always sets off the metal detectors now :-)

I have flown several times since my surgery and have NOT beeped yet :-)

You can download the card from inameds site but I have never gotten it to print right. I got mine from my nutritionist (they come with every band in the packaging, you doctor should have some stashed about)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
