hope@50plus 0 Posted July 1, 2010 This is how I got here: I have struggled with my weight for many years. I am not considered morbidly obese; I am obese. However, I have many conditions that make me a candidate for lapband: Heart bypass at 51, Clotting disorder, BAD Genes! Last year, my daughter, who has always struggled with her weight had lapband. She is my hero-she has lost 70 pounds and has more confidence in herself, both professionally and personally. My insurance is TRICARE (military) I do not meet the guidelines for lapband. However, my cardiologist thinks I should get it due to my medical history and my Bad Genes. I pray Tricare will waive the requirements and allow me to get the surgery. My mom and grandmother both died of heart disease at 58; I am almost 56- I want to live longer than 58. We'll see...
Rsilversea 2 Posted July 1, 2010 Tricare just changed their policy to BMI so you might want to check out their policy again. I don't know the specifics on the new policy but my husband (who works at a medical clinic) just told me that they had changed it (about two weeks after I had my surgery). NaveyWifey 0 Posted July 1, 2010 Tricare for me was awesome. Although my BMI was 49 and I have 1 co-mo...But I would definately give it a go. I was approved in 2 days and my surgery is in a few hours. I am sooo nervous!!! I pray that you are able to have this procedure! 55 is still a good of age as any. You deserve happy healthy years at whatever age. My mom is 52 and I am hoping that when she sees my results it will motivate her to make the decision. Best of luck!!!
