New, afraid i will be talked into the other surgeries

Recommended Posts

I don't see any postings with the doctor I will be seeing on July,15. It will be my first visit since the seminar. He seemed all for the sleeve and rouen-y but for the lapbabd(realize) he said if that's what you really want then I will talk to you about it. Seemed to try to discourage people from that procedure. That's how I took it, anyway. I don't want those other major surgeries, I haven't even seen the doctor yet and i'm nervous enough for LAP-BAND®. oh what to do! thanx for your input :) seymour, indiana p.s. IDK this for a fact, it's just how I preceived the seminar. It just may be my nerves.

For some, RNY is a better choice, medically. My surgeon will not do a band on a diabetic, due to the fact thst RNY generally puts it into remission quickly. Listen to the doctor and why he prefers which surgery for YOU.

Best wishes on your decision.

well i will try to listen, but i am a very nervous person. I'm not even sure surgery will be possible for me, but at least I will consult with the doctor. I feel badly for people that have the major surgeries and 5 yrs down the road they are having so many problems, and look so unhealthy with the ashen skin and I don't want that, and it does not seem to be any healthier than if they were obese. IDK facts though other than reading postings by people with so many major problems. thanx for your input, however :)

I am only 2 1/12 years out, and I did not have massive amounts to lose. But I am much healthier. No longer on BP or cholesterol meds. My blood sugar is normal to slightly elevated. My BMI is now normal. For me, this was a very good decision. That can change down the road, but I might get hit by a bus, too.

The decision for surgery is a personal one, and not to be taken lightly.

If you are sure that it is a lap band you wish to have, and your current doctor prefers to do other surgeries, then why not try a new doctor?

I'm sure you can use these forums to find a good lap band doctor in your area.

a lot of doctors prefer the other weight loss surgeries because they dont require so much after care. With the band you must go many times for fills check ups etc and this can be annoying for some doctors because they don't make a lot of money off the after care.

If you prefer the band then i would switch to another doctor who will be more supportive of your decision for wanting the band.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
