How Often Do You Get An Adjustment?

Recommended Posts

Hi All - I had my first band adjustment in June and I'm wondering when the second one should be scheduled? How many months apart do you have your adjustments? Please share. Thanks!

The timeline is not what matters most. It's the feeling of hunger between meals. If you are hungry shortly after a "meal" you should think about getting a fill.

Here are my fills, but you can't go by other's fills because our anatomy is so different among other things.

7/9/09 at surgery 2.7cc (felt restriction 4 weeks)

8/28/09 1st fill +1.2cc = 3.9cc (restriction 3 wks)

09/25/09 2nd fill +1.4cc = 5.3cc (very tight 15 days...then good restriction) Sweet spot

4/2/10 3rd fill .1cc = 5.4cc

5/17/10 4th fill .1cc = 5.5cc

6/01/10 unfill .8cc = 4.7cc

6/18/10 5th fill (re-fill) .6cc = 5.3cc

When I had surgery I left with no cc's in my band, my 1st fill was 1 month later and the 2nd and 3rd fills were 2 weeks apart. I had my 3rd fill today and I have a total of 2.5cc in a 10cc band. My doctor told me to come back in a month this time. I'm a little disasppointed he only put .5cc in this time. I really want to feel some restriction!!

Thanks for the feedback. I had my first fill on 6/8. I have decent restriction - I am full for 3-5 hours between meals depending on what I eat - but, I don't have the limitations in terms of volume. For example, tonite I had a homemade sirloin burger with all the fixings (lettuce, Tomato, cheese, avocado) and a corn cob. I'm full now but, compared to others on here, it sounds like that's too much food. Some people don't have more than 1 cup of food - this was clearly more than one cup. And, although I'm keeping with the plan in terms of what I'm eating, the scale really isn't moving. I've lost maybe 2 lbs since the first fill. That's why I'm trying to determine if I need, and can I receive, another fill - how long in between fill appointments? Would love any other insights. Thanks.

My first fill was approx. 6 weeks after surgery. He put in 4 cc. I then go once a month until I hit restriction. He has put 1 cc in each time after the first fill. I have 7cc in now, and I don't think I'm at restriction. I cannot wait until I get there. It is frustrating.

My first fill was june 21st, 4cc in 15cc band. I am going for a second fill tomorrow for my second fill, 3 days short of 2 weeks later. My dr does not want me to give back any weight that I have lost! I have gained a few back since I started mushies then real food.< /p>

I was banded In October 09. My fills have averaged out to every other month. Have really great restriction since my last fill in May. My ins. won't cover fills so at $250 a pop this is fine!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
