One year band anniversary today!!!!!

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, today is my one year band anniversary and I have lost only 39.8lbs so far compared to others who got it done same time I have lost very less. I think people lost anywhere from 60 lbs to 100 lbs and I wish I was one of them! Then on positive side, I think if I haven't had this surgery, I would be same weight may be few extra pounds. My band didn't work for first 7-8 months but now I feel I have restriction. I can still eat 1500 calories a day and I am contemplating whether I should go for some small fill, what do you suggest?

Happy Bandiversary!!!! A loss is a loss regardless of the amount. How often do you go in for your fills? Also, what food patterns are you following? Answers to these two questions can make all of the difference in the world. Remember, the band is going to do it's job, you just have to do yours. (That's what I always tell myself!)

If you are making good food choices, not getting stuck, and are hungry after a half cup of food, then it is prolly time for a fill. My doctor's office recommends coming in monthly for an adjustment. What are your doctor's recommendations?

I haven't gone for a fill for 3 months now but I used to go monthly until I got good restriction. My insurance changed to bcbs and they don't pay for fills so I am a self pay that's why I push my fills further if I can. I just joined intense exercise boot camp 4 days a week which is making me lose little faster than before. I was eating lot of granola bars until 2 days ago but I stopped now but cravings for sweets are killing me!!!!!! I can easily eat 1 cup of food at one sitting, still getting stuck though on rice, bread and eggs mostly which are my staple foods. I am trying to do major changes in my diet starting after long wend. With this info what do y'all think, do I need a 0.3 or 0.5 cc fill?

You are likely to get stuck from Pasta, rice, and bread because those foods swell in your pouch. I don't eat any of those items. Sweet cravings are hard to cease, I speak from experience so I know what you're going through with those but try cutting back bit by bit and excercise self control. Simple sugars give you a blood spike and give you comfort mindwise but then causes you to crave more sugar. Don't buy the stuff. I find that if it is not in the house, then the temptation is not there. It seems that you need a modification of your food choices more so than a fill. Certainly, I am not qualified to tell you how much of a fill...but....

How much do you have in your band now and what kind of band do you have?

I have realize band and I think I have 5cc of different kind of Fluid not saline in my band. That's why I have restriction at 5cc which my doc says is difficult with saline.

I know I need to do major changes in my eating just like what I did to my exercise 3wks back and I feel great.

For me it is all about controlling my hunger and cravings. I know that carbs are the issue I have to watch.

I try to avoid all starches like bread, potatoes, rice, and all sweets by not having them around. If I eat them, my appetite, especially for them, increases dramatically. I try to stick with lean meats (chicken, turkey, diet lean burger, shrimp, pork tenderloin, etc.) low carb veggies (broccoli, cauliflower, zuchinni, green Beans, peppers, mushrooms, cucumbers, salad greens, etc), occasionally Beans of all sorts, and limited fresh fruits. If I am hungry I bump up my Protein with Protein powder. That way my hunger stays in better control.

I was banded April 7 and have had two fills so far and have 2.5cc in my band. I am looking forward to another fill next week.

My band is great, but what I put in it makes a world of difference. I am better when I stay away from heavy carbs.

The band has helped tremendouly but my chioces make a lot of difference.

Good luck wiht your exercise and food choices. It is not easy, but can be done!:)

The added excercise is a positive that you should be proud of:thumbup:. I'm almost willing to bet that if you keep that going along with a change in your daily foods, you'll see a dramatic difference. A fill may not be necessary right now. Visit this site daily for encouragement, recipe ideas and advice. Also, blogging, journaling, and making videos have all been proven to help improve self worth and self-evaluation.

Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
