Recommended Posts

Protein heavy and very small. chicken, Beans and vegetables have been the most common ingredients in my meals since I've gotten some decent restriction with my 2nd fill.

I am six weeks post op--I've been on solid food for the last week and I usually eat the same thing most days: (I'm a vegetarian also)

cream of wheat or heritage cold Cereal for Breakfast, if I go out to breakfast--two poached eggs and a slice of toast

lunch is usually an eng. muffin with some melted cheese and sliced Tomato or cottage cheese or left overs from dinner.

dinner is a mexican style casserole, or stir fry with tofu, or something with lentils, or spaghetti with marinara, or a baked potato with steamed veggies and a salad. I eat the same as I did before but MUCH MUCH less and I don't eat a lot after dinner which is something I used to do.

I snack on yogurt, fat free pops, a Protein shake if I haven't gotten enough Protein for the day, some crackers with Peanut Butter, a string cheese, or fruit. I usually avg. about 60 grams of protein a day, about 1,200 calories. I've lost ten pounds since my surgery almost six weeks ago. When I go out I eat carefully--I've had pizza and was fine with it. I may be getting a fill tomorrow so all of the above may change. I haven't had much restriction yet. I didn't think I'd be able to eat what I used to but so far I am and I feel fine, I've never thrown up or choked on anything. But again, after a fill, all that may change. Hope this helps you.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
