mnmthomson 0 Posted June 29, 2010 I am just on my preop diet but I am craving everything under the sun. I just want to know if anyone can tell me if you craved or still do with the lap band or will these subside? I have heard that people dont really crave food afterwards since you arent hungry. I know I cant give in to these but what has help you?
btrieger 21 Posted June 29, 2010 Immediately following surgery your hunger and cravings will probably dissipate. Try brushing your teeth when the cravings are strong. Nobody ever wants to soil their freshly brushed teeth.
shelyshely 0 Posted June 29, 2010 I have wondered the same thing, my first appointment is July 1st, so I'm not dieting as of yet. With all other diets I've been on it seems like I start to crave foods I normally don't want. Like chicken fried steak, I never eat that until I'm on a diet then I want it BADLY. I know that I will get deathly ill if I eat certain things after the lap band, but how do you get past it. I like the brushing you teeth thing I have done that in the past and it cures a fleeting craving but some of mine become obsessions. How do you deal with those? btrieger 21 Posted June 30, 2010 Shely, If you are just starting the process, do NOT treat it like a diet. Try to eat smart but don't rob yourself of your favorite foods. Eat whatever you'd like but in moderation. Eat smaller portions than you usually do; cut it small and chew the hell out of it. Try to stay away from fast food and don't drink regular soda; milk or juice.
mnmthomson 0 Posted June 30, 2010 I know I will be able to have things in moderation later but its just this few weeks that are going to be hard because I cant have anything but shakes. And I also tend to want things I never eat until I am not allowed to have anything.
tinksmom 0 Posted June 30, 2010 I found that as I found I could tolerate and enjoy my favorite foods the cravings went away.
