Question about hunger in week one

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on June 24. I am on Clear liquids until my first post-op appt on July 2. Since my surgery I have felt full without eating or drinking anything. I have to force myself to drink Water and I can't even think about eating anything. I feel like I just left a big meal. My stomach feels really full all the time.

Is this normal? When do I feel hunger again? I mean, it is nice because I am only consuming like 120 calories a day from my small bottle of apple juice, but I am concerned that something is wrong.

Any thoughts?

I think it's totally normal. I was the same way the first week. Your stomach is just swollen from having the surgery, giving you some natural restriction. But it does get better. The first few weeks are the hardest. Hang in there!

Totally normal. And trust me, you're going to be missing this time when you start healing LOL! Enjoy it now!

Congrats on your recent surgery!

Treasure that full feeling for as long as it lasts!!! I guarantee you that it will go away and you will wish for the good old days immediately after surgery when you weren't hungry!

Good luck to you!

It totally normal, I was the same way for up to 3 weeks, that's where I lost the most amount of weight. After a while you start to feel the hunger again, so don't worry your body is just healing from surgery, pretty soon you will start to feel the hunger and then your going to wish, you didn't.

Thanks to everyone for the input. I feel better knowing it is normal.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
