If the band were to slip would I know? I got the hiccups yesterday and I don't feel anything but I read so much on this forum about slippage that I'm all paranoid now that it will happen to me. It just seems like it's easy to have happen.

Good question. I got them yesterday during my lunch incident and wonder if it caused some issues. I do feel something though. Just waiting another 5 minutes for my doctor's office to open so I can see if they can get me in sooner.

Oh glad I'm not the only one wondering. Please let me know if your doc says it did anything.

I get the hiccups every time I eat too much - my band is stitched in and my doc said it would be pretty hard for it to slip (I think most docs do that now).....I wouldn't worry too much about that

I recently had what they call a "prolapse" which as far as I can tell is a minor slip. You will definitely know when you have had a slip.

Last january (about 4 months after being banded) I went to the ER being unable to keep Water down. They said I had acid reflux and to eat better foods.

About three weeks ago I went to my aftercare facility with similar symptoms to last january. I did a barium swallow and my stomach had somewhat mushroomed over the band, when its is supposed to look like a banana coming out of the band connecting to your esophagus. They took all the Fluid out (but I am still having problems, which may be related to a current ear infection as mucus and nasal drainage can cause blocking in the lap band).

Until you are having constant heartburn and/or unable to keep simple foods down (i.e. pudding, Soup, water), don't worry.

Try to eat slower and don't drink through straws. before even being banded, I would get the hiccups when I ate too fast.

Hope this helps.

I just experience this "prolapse" my doctor had to take all the Fluid in my band. I couldn't eat nor drink for a couple of days. This started the day I went on vacation (out of the country) so I could'nt come to see my doctor.

According to my doctor, this is pretty common. But I am a little scared.

Taylor2e: Did you recover soon? Have you gotten this again?

the chest pain could be acid reflux.

and thanks for asking, but I actually just had to have emergency surgery (two days ago) to have my lap band removed. hope this doesnt alarm anyone on the thread. looks like my original surgeon put the band a little lower than he should have. I have had problems with my band the entire time so its kind of a relief but at the same time I am really bummed and its still really surreal.

Oh I'm sorry to hear you had to have it removed! Can you have it put back in again over time?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
