Finally I am taking the plunge. I decided to open the wallet and pay a visit to Dr. Huacuz. Dec. 9th I will fly to Ca. and get banded the same day. I have been doing alot of research and the discomfort afterward has me a bit worried. some patients claim to have terrible pain for 7-10 days. I guess I will have to hope to be one of the lucky ones.

Hey Dave~

Just wanted to say good luck to you on your journey to WLS. I know how you feel about the pain thing after surgery. I've never ever been through any kinda surgery, so I'm a little scared. But, I think it will all be worth it in the end. You'll do great!

*Good Luck*

Dave - best of luck to you! Everyone's experience with their surgery is different. I hardly had any pain & was back to work by Day 4. I think the hardest part for me was the fear of the unknown. You'll do just fine.

Good luck. I've been astounded at how easily I've gotten over this surgery. I'm not running marathons yet on day 4 but I feel absolutely fabulous. I needed no pain relief by day 2 and I'm about to drive the boys to school - I lack a bit of mobility but will be fine to do it. I've been Christmas shopping and on several decent walks, have slept well and comfortably too. Its sooooo worth it.

Dr. De La Garza is an absolutely fantastic doctor and person. The surgery went well and I was most impressed with the facilities at OCA hospital. The staff there treated me like I was royalty or something. The only problem right now is the pain in the port area. Luckily a friend was able to get me a few percocet. I have had no issues with the lingering gas pains in the shoulders. I asked the doctor about it right before the surgery and he told me he uses a minimum of gas in the abdomen to avoid this problem. I am very pleased thus far and now my biggest battle will to fight off the urges to cheat eat. good Lord please give me the strength. Did anyone else have an extended period of port pain post surgery. Is this normal?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
