Need some HELP!!! I have a slip!!

Recommended Posts

I got my band in 2006. And I did really well and lost 100lbs. I still had about 75lbs to go. Then in November of 2007 I got pregnant! I actually lost weight during my pregnancy and 6 weeks after my son was born I was down 10lbs. Then I started gaining weight so I went to get a fill. My Dr. told me I had a slip but gave me a fill anyways. I had terrible heartburn for about 2 weeks but then I was back to eating normal. It did not fill like I had any resistance at all. My son is now 22 months old and I have gained 40lbs in the last 2 years. I went back to the Dr to have another fill and was told I had to have the slip fixed first. My insurance did not pay for my band and it does not pay for my fills. I contacted them about my slip and they will not pay for that either. I can't afford to pay for surgery again but I also can't afford to continue to gain weight. I am getting really depressed about the whole situation. I worked really hard to lose the weight and now I am gaining it all again! Does anyone have any suggestions?

I'm kind of confused about why your doctor would have given you a fill in the first place when he said you had slipped. When my band slipped last summer, I was throwing everything up, I definitely didn't need a fill. They had to send me to the hospital to do a swallow test to verify the slip. Then after verifying there was a slipped band, they removed all my Fluid. I quickly gained weight but my band went back into position on its on. There was nothing else required to fix it. It doesn't work on every slip, but mine was just a "minor" slip & removing the fluid was all it took. Just wondering if your doctor has tried that?

JRFAN88....I am not sure why he did either. And he has not given me any options except for more surgery. I have not been real happy with him. In fact many of times I don't get to see him...his assistance does the fills. My Mother-in-Law and Sister-in-law both went to him. My MIL had a two slips and the 1st one they did surgery and corrected...the second one they removed her band completely. But he did not seem concerned about it when he gave me the fill but when I went back he told me no. I have not thrown up as you suggested and like my MIL did. I think it is just time to find a new Dr.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
