shellyh 0 Posted June 28, 2010 Hello, I'm new to site. I have been going through the process to have LAP-BAND® surgery this coming July (in the next 4 weeks~!) BUT I ended up getting Pneumonia on May 5. I was in the Hospital for 6 days on oxygen and heavy antibiotics, and also prednisone which I remained on for 2 weeks after being discharged. I'm so upset because i was doing so well . I had lost 8 lbs, my surgeon was happy, i was happy, and then this happend. Now i'm being told the anestesiaologist won't tell me for at least 2-3 months after a clear chest X-ray which I don't have yet. And thanks to prednisone, i have gained back the 8 lbs and a few more to boot!:scared2: The only good outcome is that i did manage to quit smoking completley from 1-1/2 packs a day to 0, because the hospital stay scared the heck out of me ... 2beskinny 4 Posted June 28, 2010 Hang in there, Shellyh You will be banded before you know it. A few months is a bummer, but a necessary wait. You want to be very healthy for the surgery! Don't put too much pressure on yourself about the weight gain, either...that's why we are all here :scared2:. If we could lose it (and keep it off!) on our own, we would not need the band. I have been bouncing around with a minimal loss before I start my pre-op next diet next week. I think mentally I know I'm going to be entering a new phase of life and I will enter it with a lot of help from the band, so I'm not beating myself up over not achieving a huge pre-surgery weightloss (like I imagined back in March). It's not a race, it's a journey. Best of luck to you!
