3rd fill? Is it really the magic fill???

Recommended Posts

I've heard several people say that their 3rd fill was it for them, they called it the "magic fill". I have had 2 fills and have 2cc in my band, I really don't feel much restriction and I've only had 1 sticking episode. Should I ask my dr for more cc's? I had surgery May 4th and I've lost 26lbs. These last 2 weeks it's been the same 3lbs over and over?? Suggestions?

I would ask for another fill. I had my first fill last thursday and dr put 4 cc in on the first one. I had some restriction after surgery and then right after the fill and now it's going away. Good luck.

I'm surprised you've had 2 cc in your six weeks post op..sounds like your doc does fills fairly quickly but small fills at a time? How big is your band?

Fill #3 was the fill that kicked my butt. She added I think 1.2 cc to put me around 8.6 cc in a 14 cc band. I was tight but had to be very careful for about 6 weeks then around that time became REALLY tight...somedays I'd be sort of almost "okay" then others I'd struggle to get fluids down. I dealt with that for 6 weeks before I finally caved and got a slight unfill. She took out 0.8 leaving me with 7.8 cc (I THINK?) and OHHhhhh...the difference it made. That was about 2 1/2 weeks ago. I've still had a few stuck episodes and had 2 days where I went back to liquids for 24 hours but in general I am so very much better.

Yes, I think you need another fill, they do help, but be patient and you'll get there...nothing is worse than an overfill and the agony that comes with it!

Good luck!

I think #3 was my magic fill.

I started with 3 cc in my band. Felt no restriction but managed to get stuck.

Had 2 cc added for first, second and third fills bringing me to my current 9ccs.

I can only drink shakes in the morning and the amount I can eat progresses throughout the day.

I think I like it.

Fill #3 has indeed been a killer. I was banded 4/28 and had fill #1 in early June....and then 2 and 3 w week apart. The Doc said that #3 would hit like a freight train and it has. I've been stuck a few times and the band is playing a big part in when and what I eat. I'm at 8cc and am supposed to get one more cc this week for a total of 9 (which is where the doc thinks I'll stay). I'm not sure if I'm ready to take it up a notch though...it's been rough but I'm sure worth it in the end.

the amount I can eat progresses throughout the day.

This is also true for me. Has anyone ever explained why this is so? If they have, will you please share the information? Thanks.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
