happylappy745 0 Posted June 28, 2010 I am scheduled for surgery on July 8th. I am nervous because my doctor/center didn't mandate a 'pre-op' diet of liquids. I am worried I have gained weight. Has anyone been denied surgery based on weight gain? I am about a 42 BMI and had no problem getting approved. PLEASE HELP. Should I do my own protien diet? CurvasPeligrosas 0 Posted June 28, 2010 Hello~ My surgery is on July 8th also, my doctor told me to start a liquid diet on the 1st, so I will be on it for 1 week before the surgery. I am able to drink Protein Shakes, Water, broth, the liquid from Soups, & juice. I see your from Northridge, I live in Ventura & will have my surgery done in Huntington Beach. Good luck with your surgery!
spoiltmom 44 Posted June 29, 2010 I mean may be wrong but once your insurance approves you I don't think they can go back and deny you however, the problem may be that the surgery has to be postponed if your liver is too big.
Laylas grandma 2 Posted July 4, 2010 Thats right you can not be denied for that after you're approved. My doctor did not put me on a preop diet either. I asked him why and he said he only does that if your BMI is above 55 or 60.My BMI at docs appt was 42 now a month later its about 45 cause Im nervous about surgery and been eating everything in sight. Cutting out all carbs before makes it easier for the surgeon to operate if your liver is not as big and not eating carbs will shrink it but you have to do NO CARBS. I personally dont think (with your BMI where it is) you have anything to worry about. Good Luck, Im right behind you on the 14th.
