Hello I am new here and getting banded Wed 6/30!

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am so excited! I am being banded Wednesday 6/30. I have had 3 laproscopic surgeries in the past, does anyone know if it is about the same as far as post op recovery? I begin my liquid diet tomorrow. I just found this site and love all the posts and support!

Congrats! Recovery for me was a little rougher than just the laps I have had. The first week for me was really hard. My doctor required me to do Clear Liquids for the first week and that made it even harder. But it does get easier. I only took a week off work, but probably could have used a few more days. But everyone is different. Some recover very fast. Good luck!

Hello I was banded on june 21, last monday. The surgery went great..get the rest afterwards. I had pain and GAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!GAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!and still have it but not as bad as it was a couldpe of days afterward.

Today is Sunday and the only thing I took today was a children liquid pain reliever for my left shoulder.

My office told me to do my clear but also to do my Protein drinks too......

my Protein drinks/meal replacements are my survival.....I got my Meal Replacements from my office True Results. They ARE GOOD AND I AM NOT just saying it.

Thanks! I am off work for the summer so I have about another month off but I have a one year old to chase after. My mom will be here to help me for four days but maybe I will ask her to stay longer. I have had 3 lap surgeries and was basing the amount of time I needed my mom to come on that. Day one of the liquid diet has started today :scared2:

I will have to look into True Results. I bought my Protein Shakes at costco they are made by muscle milk and they aren't bad at all. I wouldn't call them good though lol

Hi! It's great to hear of someone else in the same boat as I am. I'm getting banded on the 30th as well...and even though I've been in this process since January, this is the first time I've ever posted anything on any forum sites. I'm really nervous about my surgery and more about "failing" with the weight loss. I'm excited it's finally here but I worry that I will be one of those who doesn't succeed. I went in for my pre-op appt. today and although my doctor will do the band, he's really down on that surgical option compared to the others. I left feeling insecure about my decision. I look forward to making friends with others here who are walking this path as well. Blessings to you on Wed. let me know how it goes!

I think everyone is scared at first that they won't succeed with the band. I was too. But once you start losing, it will motivate you more. Good luck!

Hello!! I'm fairly new to the site. I'm actually scheduled to have my first consultation on 6/30. I too am afraid that I might be one of those that fail or the band might erode or slip. I keep telling myself that while complications my occur, living life like this is so much more complicated. I just got back from my GP and was told that I am now a whopping 301!!! I was in shock for a while (why I avoid scales) and wasn't aware of how far gone I was... I'm so excited and inspired, inspite of the complications, that this surgery will help me lead a happy, healthy, and more fulfilled life. I must admit my main concern is the change in diet, as in how to eat what I want, eat healthy, and eat slow enough that I don't cause myself to vomit. Please continue to post and let us know how your surgery and post op journey goes. Best wishes in your upcoming surgery!

So how are all my fellow 30th bandsters doing? Today is two days out and I'm doing alright...normal incision pain and back pain. My biggest complaint is how bloated I am and distended my tummy feels. Is anyone else feeling this and when might this go away? I haven't even put my wedding ring back on yet since surgery because I'm swollen. I've been trying to keep an ice pack in the incision area when I can to try and help with swelling but I'm not really sure that's helping at all. It's nice to hear from others how the first week went so I know I'm not crazy for not feeling terrific.

Glad to hear the surgery went well and that you are doing okay, minus the bloating.... I heard that goes away with time. Some people said they had gas real bad as well. I haven't heard anyone complain of the dreaded left shoulder pain that I heard about previously. Did you have any shoulder pain after surgery? Are you taking meds for pain? What have you been able to take in (eat, drink) so far? Did your doctor tell you that you can't take anything for the gas/bloating? Can you actually feel the band or port? Or just the incisions right now?

Wishing you the best in your recovery. Please keep us posted.

I'm doing okay. My stomach incisions don't really hurt at all. The pain in my chest from gas has been the worst! I have been trying to stay up and walk as much as possible. I have also been using gas x and heating pad, which seem to help. My uvula is very swollen and is really bothering me. It feels like I have a large piece of food in the back of my throat. I called the dr and they said it is normal and can take several days to go down. It is so annoying. Im doing well on the Protein Shakes and Water. I have also been having chicken broth. I have been having 4 oz of each throughout the day. I know Im supposed to be drinking more water, but I just don't feel like it, Im so bloatred already. I can't wait to start feeling better.

I'm new to the forum also, just had my surgery on 6/29. I'm also feeling bloated, not feeling the LAP-BAND® itself, but I do have several incisions that hurt and kind of sting, maybe 4. I had a hiatal hernia repair also, maybe that's why so many. I'm on 3 Protein Shakes a day and what Water I can squeeze in, supposed to have 24 ounces. The doctor and nutritionist say the Protein is very important for healing. I will be so much happier when I get to mushy foods, because I need salty, non-sweet food other than chicken broth. And I so hope I will be successful with the lapband. It seemed very science fiction to me to do such a thing, but I feel so much better when I am able to read the success stories and hope that I will be like others someday and say I'm so happy I finally changed my life. I'm willing to eat correctly, just don't want to regain the weight.

Just wanted to say Thank You to everyone who has posted. Reading through all of the post has given me a better understanding of what I will be experiencing.

I wish I had this surgery decades ago, and am glad to see so many young people having this surgery. After a life time of obesity, knowing what it was like for me, makes me feel good that so many young people will not experience what I have.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
