Looking For a Pocket Electronic Nutrition Calculater/Food Journal

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know of a pocket nutrition calculater/food journal - I guess I'm thinking along the lines of an electronic day planner (like a Palm Pilot) but its used for tracking your food & calories etc. and I'm looking for one you can personalize by putting your own foods in.

Anyone know of anything to buy on the net? I'm not having any luck with what I'm looking for, but I was thinking surely with todays technology and health fanatics that something like this would exist!!

I have realized I like logging my food because it makes me conscious of what I eat, but I log it online at www.kraftfoods.com where they have an interactive nutrition diary that gives you everything you need, but I hate having to go to the computer everytime and most times I'm not around one when I need it. I like to see what calories I'm consuming right then and there so I know how to plan. Can anyone help me look for this since I'm not having any luck? A sincere thanks in advance!

The Smoocher :)

Weight watchers do a good one which is pretty cheap, well they do in Australia, cant imagine they wouldnt have done it in the US first. But of course, it's tailored to their points system.

hmmmmm so do I need to search for a software program that can be downloaded to a palm pilot? I don't own a palm pilot either but I guess that would make sense - I just figured with today's technology they'd already have this sort of device all ready to go. Anyone else have thoughts on this subject?

.... its why I bought my Palm. I have a Zire 31, neither the latest nor the most powerful, but it works fine.

On it, I have the Diet and Exercise Assistant. It asks about personal information, asks you to set a goal, choose a diet plan, such as low carb vs low calorie, and starts a daily log that calculates calories, and subtracts them for exercise. It keeps track all day, subtracting what you've eaten from goal calories, and adding for exercise.

It produces little charts of how you are doing on a monthly and annual basis, in color.

It has a separate food icon where you can enter your own stuff, although it has lots of items already.

I like it better than WW, which wants you to rent their program, and report into their site at least monthly. I think how I am doing is my own business, and don't want to continually pay someone to track it.

I really like it being private, portable, and immediately available. Its about the size of a 3x5 card and weights lighter than a deck of cards.

PalmOne has Zire for $129; less if you get a refurb. The program is $19.95.

Good luck!

Judy

I had something like that too Judy, but mine was really old. Back before color was invented :) I find using the palm is an excellent tool, and I'm gettin a new one for Christmas, even if I have to give it to myself :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
