Help! I am starving

Recommended Posts

I was banded on June 15 and have not been hungry at all since my surgery. I woke up today and I am starving! I am eating soft foods but cannot seem to get full. I am also drinking Water trying to get full. I am full for an hour and then I am hungry again. I have an appointment with my doctor on Friday. Will they give me my first fill then to reduce my hunger? I am still eating wisely, I just cannot seem to stay full.

Thanks for any advice.

They might not give you your first fill then. I think many doctors like to wait to do the first fill until 6 weeks after surgery, for purposes of healing. Hang in there, though. Tell your dr what's going on. It is normal to have good restriction at first but then to have it disappear all of the sudden. And it might take several fills to get you to the right level. Just try to be as healthy as you can during this time but don't beat yourself up over it. Good luck!

What are you eating? Are you getting plenty of Protein? That is what will stick around; keep your appetite down and burn the fat.

I am only on liquids so, no I am not getting any Protein. Thanks for your input. This is all so new to me.

No Protein is the problem. Are you on liquids or "clear liquids" specifically.

If it is all liquids, you want to include either Protein shakes in your diet or mix Protein powder into some of the liquids.

You should be getting at least 50 grams of Protein a day.

I am on liquids. I do have some Protein mix left over from pre-op. I will try that tomorrow and see how I feel. Thanks again for the input.

I agree, you need to be drinking at least two or three Protein Shakes a day, no wonder you're hungry. Also try greek yogurt, it's got a lot of Protein or a Soup that has protein. That should do it. Good Luck!

Thanks so much. I had a shake this morning, along with some yogurt and I actually feel full and have stayed full for more than an hour. Thanks again.

One other good thing to eat is cream of wheat--but make it really thin--it's considered a "full liquid" (one you can't see thru), use non fat milk or soy milk and you'll get the Protein from the milk and the cereal--about 12 grams. I was also allowed pudding--so I would make my own and use mild.

The other thing with getting a fill--they like to wait until you've been on solids for a couple of weeks as well. They can't really judge how much weight you're losing until you're eating solids.

hope this helps and hang in there.:scared2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
