Hungry too soon after I eat?

Recommended Posts

Ok so I am a year postop down 73 lbs. I am at 5.75cc in a 10cc band. I feel like I am at great restriction. My issue is when I eat, I am hungry within 1-2 hours after. My meals are super small cause I usually start getting stuck before I can get a good size meal down. So I usually stick with eating small amounts but often. This has sped my metabolism up nicely. My concern is am I not supposed to be getting hungry that often? I am eating mostly Protein which is supposed to satisfy you longer. I dont know. maybe my body has juust gotten used to eating often? Could the faster metabolism have something to do with it? Am I doing something wrong? Do I need a fill?

Please help!

I personally think as long as you keep your calories down it doesn't matter if you eat every couple of hours. I eat 5 times a day. Whatever works for you is what you should do, but if you can only eat a small meal I wouldn't recommend a fill.

I agree with Leigha. It doesn't matter as long as your caloric intake is less than you burn. I wouldn't worry about it. I can honestly say that I'm hardly ever hungry anymore though...but that's just me. Best wishes!

If it is working for you like this fine.

However it is possible that you are too tight. A little less fill may enable you to eat slightly more and be satisfied for longer. It is something that you should discuss with your DR.

I know you work out a lot from your post on the exercise thread. I've noticed that since I've up'd my workouts and added strength training, my hunger varies a lot from day to day. And, there are some days when I am hungry every couple hours. I don't really want a fill right now because I am really happy w/my restriction level.

So, on those hungry days, I try to do something that my mom's doctor recommends. Its called 'Water loading' where you drink down as much Water as you can when you think you are hungry (basically, you are loading your pouch w/water). Sometimes it takes the hunger away for another half hour or so. Sometimes, I am still truly hungry again in just a few minutes. So, then I just eat. I figure my body needs it and I stick to healthy foods (mostly Protein, fruit, vegies).

And, even though I'm eating more since upping my exercise, I'm losing weight and gaining muscle A LOT faster. I got one of those Tanita Ironman scales that tells me how much fat I'm losing and how much lean muscle I am gaining. Love it!

I have the same issue. After a meal (which is a small portion) it takes about 2 hours and I begin to feel hungry. I think its normal though. Weight loss programs for people without a band say its best to eat multiple (around 5) small meals a day. It increases matabolism. With our band we eat way less at one time and its only natural for our bodies to get hungry faster. And I'm sure your matabolism has gotten faster too. If you start to gain weight due to the amount of meals you eat, I'd consider a band fill. If you are still losing weight, exercising, and are happy... don't fix what's not really broken :scared2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
