I know that we should keeo meals to 4 oz in order to keep the pouch from stretching. Does this apply to liquids and Soups etc???

Liquids don't have to be 4 oz. Soups if they are just liquids, they don't need to be 4oz. Soups with veggies and things in them, should be 4 oz. You shouldn't gulp though. Sip.

Thanks for the reply! I am eating lots of Tomato Soup and was worried about taking in more than 4 oz of it at a time but then wondered if that only applied to whole foods. Now I know:)

What stage are you at? After the initial post op diet progression most surgeons prefer you not to drink your calories. Whilst Tomato Soup may be healthy(depends on if its homemade or out of a can) it still slides through fairly quickly and won't give you the sense of satiety you are looking for. The band works best with solid foods.

Ok as someone else said then, you don't want to get your calories from liquid Soups because those are considered sliders and they won't stay in your band that long. You will find yourself eating more and more. You want to get your fills from the mushies. It's ok to have Soup once and awhile but don't make a habit of it. You won't lose any weight. And NEVER be afraid to advance to the next stage in foods if your doctor says you can.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
