really depressed today

Recommended Posts

Today is my 10 year high school reunion. We are eating at Red Robin. It's depressing because it seems like so many social get togethers revolve around food. I know I want to be thinner/healthier, but sometimes it's frustrating because I have to eat so differently. I havent had a fill yet, but I'm still watching what I eat. Sometimes it's hard going out and trying really hard to watch what I'm eating and others around me are ordering appetizers, huge dinners, and dessert. My best friend sometimes makes me feel weird cuz she'll say "well what can you eat then?" like I'm some kind of freak. I don't know, I guess I just needed to vent. I can eat less than half what I could eat without the band. I know after my first fill (July 8), I'll be able to eat even less. A little part of me is nervous about this. I am thrilled to death that I have my band. I know it's going to help me, but is it normal to have the negative feelings? Thanks for listening guys! ~Leeanne~

It is normal, Leeanne---it really is.

Over time, you'll find that food issues take less precedence in your life. But now--when you're HUNGRY, and not well-restricted, well...it's really hard.

It gets SO much easier. Going to restaurants will fit in with your banded life in a way that is so much more liveable very soon.

And when the weight loss gains momentum, it becomes easier still, because that is so motivating.

You're in a rough spot now. And your negative feelings are normal. But they will dissipate as you start seeing/feeling the results you want.

Have fun at your reunion!

And the great thing about the band is that it is gradual!! So it you will be able to eat less food, but only a little less than before...and then the next fill a little less than that. And then, what I am doing now...although I know a lot of people don't do this...but since I am at goal, I have been getting small UNFILLS each month. I want to use my head more and my band less....it is very hard! But I have been maintaining since January....so far so good! Your feelings are totally normal :)

Thank you Amy! It's nice cuz I still let myself enjoy things I like to eat in much smaller portions and I don't feel as guilty! I feel like I have so much more control over my eating! Thank you for the support! Congrats on your incredible weight loss btw!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
