Soup has become my savior since my last fill. I am not much of a cook, so have been buying Progresso "0 point" or the Healthy choice lower cal ones, They have so much sodium and aome even are high in sugars. I can't have any noodle or rice as I do not want start that road. I eat a lot of the vegetable and pot roast type.

Any suggestions or secret finds for Soups that are better nutritionally?

IM not sure of the nutrition content but when i need Soup i like progresso tomatoe basil.

Just wondering why you are eating Soup. It is not the best food to work with a band - the band is designed to work with solid foods.As you have already discovered canned Soups are not very healthy.

Even if you are not a cook homemade soups are really easy to make. All you need is some veggies and stock. Boil until soft and then blend. How much easier can it get?

If you are making a single veg soup e.g Tomato, pumpkin etc you usually add 1 or 2 potatoes as well. If you want to add Protein to your soups add some chickpeas,Beans,lentils etc.

It really is easy and they are far tastier and more nutritious than anything you will ever get out of a can.

I second the homemade soups... Every so often I make a big pot of a nice veggie Soup and then freeze half of it to use later.

For canned Soups (I do eat them on occasion) look for ones in the health food section, diabetes section etc... Pritkin, Amy's, Trader Joe's etc... The ones in the cartons tend to be a little healthier too..

I make a big pot of black bean Soup about every 10 days or so. My entire family loves it and I eat it when I am at work, since duty free lunch doesn't exist. Cook the black Beans from scratch or use canned beans. Saute some onion in a little olive oil, then add some garlic. Add a can of rotel tomoatoes, the beans ( a lb of dried, cooked or 5 cans), a Tbs of chili powder and tsp of cumin. Let it simmer for 15 minutes and then use an immersion blender to puree it. It is really good. I eat it with a little reduced fat sharp cheddar and fat free sour cream. For extra Protein, I add some unflavored Protein Powder.< /p>

I love beans... black beans especially. Do they not give you terrible gas? Since my lap band surgery... I have an abundance and hate to add fuel to the fire. LOL Sounds like a great recipe and look forward to trying it. :)

Even when you make it yourself Soup can be a high sodium food, because the broth you use is usually high in salt! But at least home made, you can control it.

Soup fills me up a LOT, I find it a very hard food to eat, I"m not sure why, probably the combo of liquids and solids. So for me, it is a fabulous low calorie choice that dampens my appetite for hours.

I rely on soup, I eat it probably five times a week, in order to get a good lot of vegies and Beans in.

I dont worry tooooo much about the sodium because I eat a very small serve, I make it myself and the rest of my diet is very unprocessed, Breakfast is usually things like rolled oats, so totally unprocessed and dinners are nearly always home cooked from scratch and fairly low in salt.

My favourite is zucchini and leek - I use the food processer to grate 3 large zucchini (courgettes) and 2 leeks, then add to a big pot with some diced bacon (a couple of handfuls) and olive oil, sweat it down in the pan by adding about 1/2 cup Water and medium heat, 20 mins or so, then add your stock (I use Vegeta and hot water) - about 250 mls, simmer for about 20 mins, then add either cream or low fat evaporated milk (I just use cream, I mean I eat so healthy overall, I'm not worried by a bit of cream) and blend it all up. Its absolutely delicious!

I usually only eat Soup after fills.. but i have been having clam chowder one a week latley yummy

WOW, thanks for the replies and recipes. I will be brave and try one! I have been eating Soup b/c it fills me and is easy and quick for the "duty-free" lunch I never seem to get at school. I also have not had "stuck" issues with even the meatier ones. I am deathly afraid of getting stuck at school and not being able to handle it properly.

I think I am getting bored too b/c I stick to my safe foods at school and am in a rut and sometimes don't eat at all and them 'binge' once home. Need an adjustment in my head this visit and not the band. :)

        Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

      Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

        Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
