I paid my doctor in full for the surgery before ever having it. i.e. CASH PATIENT. Supposed to cover everything and unlimited fills for a year. So today in the mail, I get a bill from the hospital for almost 38K. WTH? It better be a screw up, b/c I am not supposed to be charged that. I hate dealing with hospital billing departments. grrr.

All of this on a day where my scale is showing me up 2 lbs. I have been so good, have been tracking all of my calories, not doing anything bad - only the given mushy diet, have been walking on my treadmill, and drinking maybe more Water than needed. So the stupid hospital bill is hitting at the absolute wrong time.

/end rant.

Eek! My doctor and hospital bills were separate--I hope you don't find out that you have a separate hospital fee!

I wasn't a cash patient, but just to give you some reassurance I know that w/my surgeon that when you pay the cash price, it definitely DOES include the hospital fee. Then, the surgeon pays the hospital a negotiated rate which is much much less than what they would bill you for separately. So, my guess is that there was a mix-up and they billed you instead of going to your surgeon for their share of the cash fee.

I had the same experience. I was cash paid, paid up front, I did have to give separate checks to the doc for his services and the hospitals...about 3 months post op I got a bill from the hospital for 21K...My docs billing manager has been dealing with them for me. The last bill I got from the hospital was ONLY 5K..so, they're getting there...but I shouldn't owe 'em a cent....take a deep breath and call 'em Monday and see what the story is. At one point the hospital claimed not to have received my cashiers check (which had been cashed...) bit it was eventually found. Pain in the butt.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
