Have you been keeping your fat clothing?

Recommended Posts

Not there yet, but as soon as I shrink out of it, it will be GONE. Nicer work clothes will go to Dress for Success, some things will be shared with the banded "sisterhood" and everything else will go to charity.

Good bye and good riddance. I have lived like this my entire life and don't need any reminders of what I am leaving behind.

I have purged my closet once already of things that were way too big or I knew I would not want to wear again. It was hard to get rid of some things, though, that I really liked, but were getting too big. But, they will go w/the next purge which I am really due for. Half my closet is too big for me again so its time. And, if I haven't worn it in the past two months this time, its going!

I'm actually a little superstitious that if I get rid of the fat clothes, then I will regain the weight (kind of the opposite of what most people think). But, that's what has happened to me every time I have gotten rid of fat clothes before... I gained the weight back and had to buy new clothes. But, the reality is I've always loved buying new clothes so getting rid of fat clothes has never been a deterent to regaining the weight. I just buy new fat clothes. And, I actually have fun buying fat clothes. Never really bothered me. LOL

But, this time it is really just a matter of needing to get rid of the clutter. It makes it hard to decide what to wear or get ready when half your closet is filled w/stuff that doesn't fit and is unflattering.

I donated those big clothes and have already started mad shopping. I will save a pair of pants to remember not to ever go back there. That's all!

It took me months to do a closet purge after I was first banded. But I'm glad I did. Now almost 2 years down the track and I know I wouldn't have gone back to them. And I don't miss anything I got rid of.

Even now, as soon as something's too big for me, I bin it or give it away. I recently lost another 4kgs despite not trying to and my favourite jeans were getting loose, so I gave them to my daughter. She asked why I didn't want to hang onto to them in case I gained some weight back, but I find it helps my state of mind to wear what fits me, and not hang on to what doesnt.

I will be finally purging my closet in a couple of of weeks. We are going to be moving in a couple months, and I am not taking it if it doesn't fit properly. I have about 4 pair of jeans now, and a couple pair of capri's. I have a ton of shirts, and a few pair of shorts.

I just started a new job, and after I get some electronics that I desperatly need like my new phone and laptop, I will be updating with some more clothes. HOWEVER, not too many because we are moving from FL to TN, and it will almost be winter time. I want to be able to buy the clothes then that will fit me then. I know I will be smaller than a 14 at the time, just not sure how much smaller.

I have not had a band adjustment since October, and now that I am working, I will be able to afford one. YAHOO!!! Time to get that sweet spot back and get this band working properly again!!

I got rid of the biggest stuff and things I never liked much in the first place, but i have to admit that now that I've lost a bunch of weight, I am saving good articles of clothing here and there as I shrink out of them. I saved some smaller stuff and it's coming in handy all these years later and I'm so glad I have it. I know that with this band I won't gain the weight back but...I always gain the weight back. I can only assume that this is a terrible practice. Maybe I'm just cheap. What's your "policy"?

I have only saved 1 pair of my heaviest weight pants (Size 26). I am now in size 14. As soon as I lose the weight and the clothing is too big for me I take them right to good will. I refuse to keep them around because I am NOT gaining the weight back. Out with the old, in with the new. My theory is I have lost an entire person on the outside but I have gained a new person on the inside. The person on the inside is the one with the new outlook on life and she definately doesn't want to go back to the way things used to be. So if those fat clothes are not around, then the least likely I am to get back into them. And I am NOT going out to by bigger clothes, I am going to buy smaller clothes. :scared2:

Keeping?

Over 130 pounds down and I still wear it. I get yelled at by the fashion police all of the time but I ain't tossing out good clothes.

Haha, my diva daughter keeps yelling at me to put on pants that fit...except for the fact that I am now in size 16 and these are 20's I do not see the problem!:lol:Bought a suit for DS's graduation, when I put it on, 2 sizes too big...too bad I wore it anyway:tt2:as I didn't have time to reshop that day!

I cleaned out most of the 26's except one pair of pants for the same reasons as Betsy. 24's all gone, 22's all gone, 20's some gone, but some I can't seem to part with, 18's some gone, some I can't part with yet. 16's starting to get baggy will part with asap as I dont have many of those, same goes for 14 and lower. I think that is why I hold on to the bigger sizes, I'm afraid there will be an immediate need for black dress pants and I will not have anything to wear!:scared2:

I cleared mine out the last time I lost 100 pounds, so I don't have nearly the amount that I used to have, but the collection did start growing again over the last year or so, as I expanded past what was left of my fat clothes and into my maternity clothes -- ack!!

I'm still wearing the clothes I was wearing at my high point for now. Actually, I'm glad I have them, as everything except my jeans are easy to wear on my hips right now as my incision heals. After that? Well, they're just going to have to be baggy until I get into my 12/13/14s from when I lost last time.

I don't see me being ever getting below a size 9/10, even at goal, because of my hips. So I'll wear those 12/13/14s baggy until I get there!

Fortunately, a couple of different social circles I'm in do clothing swaps a few times a year. There's often a shortage of plus sized clothing, so it will be good to bring that and come away with stuff to fit my new shape. Everything not swapped at these goes to one of the women's shelters in town. :scared2:

My Torrid collection I will probably sell on Ebay, though. I managed to net a few hundred bucks off Torrid/punk/goth/etc clothes the last time around.

Haha! I think it probably is time for either a tailor or a trip to the store! 130 lbs is a lot to have to make up for in the way you wear your clothes!

Just saying, I think that you would look real nice in something that fit you!:scared2:

Some shirts that were falling off I gave to good will. But for the pants I have someone just take in an inch on each side and keep wearing them. I did buy two pair of pants that fit nicely and one pair of shorts. But until I get down to where I want to stay I just cant see buying clothes that I won't wear very long.

Pleas check out my blog I need more followers. See below.

Yea I am about to have to start getting rid of stuff too! I wear a uniform to work during the summer season, so far it has been easy to just "alter" the capris. But I am getting too small for the type of alter I know how to do hehe.

A tiny bit off topic, but does anyone have a good tailor that can alter clothes? In the Houston, Texas area.

I have quite a few dresses/slacks that I will need again when the summer season is over and we are back to business casual and it will cost a small fortune to re-wardrobe my closet! Good thing about it is, it always seems easier to find smaller size clothing =)

Are you actually in downtown Houston, or are you in the outskirts area? I know of a fabulous tailor, but he's in Atascocita, about 30 minutes north of Houston.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
