Life after surgery....?

Please tell me it is not like the pre-op diet. I can stand eating less of foods, but not eating things I like and enjoy sucks. I guess that is why dieting never works.

I am five weeks post op--this week I pretty much returned to my regular style of eating and feel fine. I am eating everything healthy that I ate before but less of it. Tonight I had tacos for dinner and I didn't have any problem with them. Things might change when I get my first fill--I don't know. My brother is ten months out and he's lost 60 pounds and eats normally, again just less of everything. You will be fine!

Turney,

you'll do just fine. I've always loved food too. I thought I would have a hard time giving up things. but I don't really give much of anything. I just start with my Protein (meat) and maybe mashed potatoes and a vegetable like green Beans, peas etc. By the time I finish my meat and maybe a few bites of the other, i'm full.

I'm 3 1/2 months out and have lost 42 pounds. I've only had one fill so far. I'm not having any trouble with craving other foods. I listen to my stomach not my head. If I can do it, so can you. Good luck!

I still eat practically everything I did preband except in smaller portions. There are a few things I don't eat any more - donuts, scones and other white flour doughy type things. i haven't even tried - they just don't appeal anymore.

I am a little over 5 months out and have lost 72 pounds. I only eat things I like. I agree with the others, in the course of adapting to your new way of eating your tastes change. It is so much easier now to eat healthily and much less. You are going to love your band.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
