Self Sabotage ?

Recommended Posts

So the nutritionist at the surgeons office is not thrilled with my 4 pound gain 2.5 months preop. Tufts will definately frown apon a gain during their I Can Change program and I had to loose about 10 pounds before my preop diet starts in Sept. which I havn't even started yet So why am I almost not even trying to loose on my own now? This is not a "sure thing" yet. I could show up for pre op and having not done what I needed to and have the surgeon say no.

I kind of did the same thing, myself. I had to do a 6 month diet. I was good in the beginning and I lost 30 lbs. Then I freaked out (don't know why...self-sabotage? hunger? insanity?). I started eating like crazy and gained back the whole 30 lbs prior to my surgery. Luckily, my doctor and insurance didn't care. It just reinforced for me, how much I need something that is adjustable.

Anyone can diet....it's keeping it up for the long haul, that's hard. I'll bet if you really have to lose that 10 lbs before your surgery, that you will do it. This is a life-altering surgery you are planning, it's normal for you to have some trouble adjusting to the idea.

During my pre op, I just did high Protein and no carbs, it was hard but I lost 12 lbs. Remember these are diets that should work for everyone but not everyone has the same type of metabolism. Since I could not handle the Protein drinks, I chose to eat Protein and it worked. Trial and error, is what you may have to do.

Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
