Ok, so I'm feeling quite a lot of pain in the area around my port or above my tummy. I don't know whether its gas or general pain. I can't sleep coz of the pain and sitting and standing hurts too! I've tried anti gas meds but no effect. Should I try walking? Is it too soon to be walking?

Walk, walk and keep walking! I was walking hours after the surgery. Every time I woke up to go to the bathroom, I would pace the halls. The walking is the best way to get the gas moving and out. Also, excellent exercise!

Good luck to you!

Walking helps ALOT!! I am almost 3 weeks out and my port site is still pretty sore. From what I understand, being sore in the port area for awhile is pretty common. I took my pain meds every 4-6 hours for the first 3 days. Don't over do it, but walking every hour or so will help, even if its pacing back and forth down a hallway. Within a week you'll be feeling much better!

I'm 4 days post op and seems I still have a lot of gas pain which you may be suffering as well. I found just short walks, maybe 5 minutes helps. I'm also taking Gas X strips, sipping warm liquids, taking my Ibuprofen and found that sitting back in a recliner seems to help as well. Good luck!!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
