Fishing Line hanging out????

Recommended Posts

Okay this is REALLY WEIRD.... I was banded 3 weeks ago today and my incisions are just about healed up. I noticed today while in the restroom that coming out of two of my incisions is what looks like fishing line??? One is longer than the other, but something kept pricking me and i thought it was just a scab... not so!!

Anyone have this happen to them??? Any suggestions??

Those are stitches. They should dissolve on their own. I don't know if I had them with this surgery, but I did have them with my laproscopic cholecystectomy (gallbladder) and my tubal. I know they can be a little pokey, but they should be about ready to come out. As they dissolve, you will notice that they will become a little looser and eventually the part that is hanging out will break free. Mine broke free and then pulled the partially dissolved stitch out of my incision. Not trying to sound gross, but it looked kinda like a worm. So if you notice this you won't freak out. lol. As long as you don't notice any symptoms of infection (redness, warmth, drainage), I think it will be fine.

OK so now I know I'm not crazy, because I had the same thing. I could feel it and just clipped it off...

Yep, those are just your internal stitches that dissolve - sometimes they work their way outside the body but nothing to worry about.

I had one hanging out as well surgeon I work with clipped it off for me.. once they are outside your body they won't dissolve so you can clip it off or have your surgeon do it. Just don't pull as someone else said!!!

I also had the same thing happen, I was glued, but a few days after the surgery; I noticed what looked like a fishing line poping out of the incesion. It feel off after a week or so, don't worry those are internal stiches.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
