Help - Post reduction advice required

Recommended Posts

Hi

My boyfriend had a lapband fitted about couple of years ago. He had it reduced by 50% after losing weight. However he couldn't keep any solid food down. He then had the whole band deflated but this didn't help. He vomits everything up either that or it gets stuck and he needs to flush it out with Fluid to induce vomiting. A barium meal came back clear. He stomach which is fairly flattish in the morning looks like he's swallowed a couple of beach balls by the end of the day. We can't afford to have the band removed and we're at our wits end. He lives off yogurt drinks and smoothies. Help please......this is no way to live. Many thanks for any advice.:bored:

The surgeon who placed the band should be following him until they figure out what the problem is. If he won't do it then see a GI doctor. Don't give up until you find out what's wrong.

Has he been tested for food intolerances? These commonly cause nausea, vomiting, bloating etc.iIt could be lactose intolerance especially as he is currently consuming lots af dairy or coeliac disease or one of any number of things.

It may not be anything to do with the band. maybe he needs to broaden his focus and ask to be referred to an allergy specialist.

If the food is getting stuck that sounds as though it is due to bad eating habits. Too big bites and not chewing properly.

Just refocusing on the way he eats may help.It may be that he has started off a cycle that is now hard to break.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
