Got STUCK for the first time!

Recommended Posts

Yes, I'm a little excited about it. No, I'm not mentally ill. But I've been reading all about getting stuck and now I know what it feels like. It wasn't too bad. Lasted about 3 minutes.

I got stuck on about 1/3 of a hard boiled egg that I didn't chew well enough. I'm 2 weeks post op and just started soft foods. I haven't been feeling much restriction over the past 5 days so, I'm almost relieved that I got stuck. Shows that I have a little restriction? Does this logic make sense?

I'm sure getting stuck can be worse than my stuck episode, but I am sure as hell going to make sure to chew better from now on.

As bad as it may sound I think that every person in their banded life should experience getting stuck at least 1 time. That way you know what it feels like and you know you aren't having a heart attack or something. It's also a great learning experience that teaches you that you really need to chew better. I wish I could say that it's only happened to me once but each time is a learning experience for me. I'm glad that yours didn't last that long.

I am almost 3 weeks post op, and I had my first experience about 2 days ago eating hamburger meat. I chewed, but it still didnt go down good. So, I dont think hamburger and I are going to get along very well. I am glad that I experienced it too, so i know what it feels like. But it hurt like hell. I leaned over, and it helped to move it.

You are not alone.

I couldn't wait to get stuck after reading about it for months.

It took me 4 weeks and it was in public. I was excited even though it was a bit embarrassing.

I have a problem with all red meat. I think because it's not moist enough. You could try mixing it with something like beef broth. I tend to stick with the chicken and fish though. I also can't do bread. pastas I can do once and awhile but not too often. Lettuce isn't good for me either. I prefer baby spinach instead.

Don't be nervous. Just remember to cut your portions very small (About the size of an M&M) and chew at least 25-30 times before you swallow. Practice that and you will be find in the long run.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
