I am waiting on insurance approval. A few years ago, I had extensive adhesion surgery in my abdomen. I want the Lap-Band, but I'm really worried about adhesions again and attaching to the band and port. Anyone have these issues? Thanks for your time. I plan on discussing this with the surgeon when I get to visit with him again.

I had my band installed in April 2007. In September 2011 I had to have it removed. I believe it may have slipped about 4-6 weeks after the surgery, because it worked well for 4-6 weeks then I began having problems eating or drinking without pain.

Jump ahead 7.5 years, and I suddenly could not get any food or drink down without pain, and after 3 weeks or so I couldn't even get liquid in.

I saw a surgeon who went in, and I had adhesions all around the band at the stomach, and around the port end such that the port was now attached to my liver by adhesions. The surgeon removed the band, though in hindsight I wish I'd have asked him to leave it in and put it back in place, as I've gained 24 pounds from 9/30/11 to 4/12/12. UGH!

I don't know - maybe some people are just more prone to adhesions, and maybe if I'd left it in I'd be getting them all over again. I'll never know. Many people have them installed and never get adhesions, so who knows?

I wish you the best of luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
