How did you tell your co-workers?

Recommended Posts

There is no reason to tell anyone at work unless you'd like to. The way I feel about it is that it was a decision I gave a lot of thought to and I've invested a lot in the whole process. People who are not overweight or who have no clue to the struggles of those who are can sometimes be thoughtless and discount you. If you're prepared to deal with their comments or them talking about you when you're not there, then tell them. Because they will. I only told two people at my workplace because I know they care about me. I did not tell the people I eat lunch with everyday and they did notice I'm eating different but I just told them I'm on a diet. I took four days off and said I had a some personal surgery--they didn't question me. I am a private person and didn't want the world to know. Usually the work place is pretty gossipy. Do whatever your gut tells you. Now that it's been a month, I'm really glad I didn't tell them.

To or not to tell is a choice and I repect anyone's choice. I told everybody but then again I didn't care if what they thought about MY surgery. Anyway, there have been 5 people that have had this surgery because they saw my results...Enough said.

I'm having surgery on July 13 and I've told my co-workers that I'm going on vacation. I knew that there would be some backlash and I didn't want it to bring me down, especially since I was already experiencing it with my immediate family.

I am scheduled for surgery on the same day.

I didn't tell anyone at work - all my boss and co-workers know is that I took some medical leave for surgery at the start of June - I imagined telling them later on once I start dropping more weight and it's too obvious to ignore - for now I consider it no one's business, but I intend to tell them later

I didn't tell my family either - it took me a year of this long and unpleasant process just to get approved and have the surgery - and honestly I don't think I could have put up with talking about the procedure and how everything works for a year while waiting - it was frustrating as it is already, and quite honestly I couldn't put up with all the questions along the way, people wanting the play by play, etc...

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
