So, how does it measure activity? do you have to input that also? It seems like far too much work when you can just write stuff down for free. Or am I missing something? (highly possible)

It senses your body temp and when you sweat. There's no need to input your activity unless you want to keep track of what exercises you were doing at whatever times. I don't. I just keep track of my food on the website. It tells you (if you have the digital display) how many calories you're burning per minute. That's my favorite part of the whole deal :smile2: I like to push myself and see that number jump up.

You only have to enter what you eat. It does the other stuff on its own. Below is copied from the Bodybugg link that I posted earlier:

The bodybugg system uses a patented process to measure calorie burn.

The process is based on:

bodybugg_diagram_small.gif

  • Motion: The armband contains an accelerometer that measures motion from multiple perspectives.
  • Steps: The accelerometer counts steps by measuring the distinct patterns created by running or walking.
  • Galvanic skin response: When you sweat, your skin becomes more electrically conductive. This measurement helps the device understand how active you are.
  • Skin temperature: There’s an electronic thermometer inside your armband that monitors how hot you are.
  • Heat flux: When you move, your muscles produce heat. Your armband measures the heat that’s flowing from your body into the environment.

thanks, bt. I am so not a technology person. It still all seems like magic to me, pathetic as it is. I appreciate you highlighting the easy to "get" thing for me!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
