need your advice - on solid food and gaining weight

this is driving me crazy:w00t:. I feel like I can eat as much as I did before the surgery and I am hungry! I had a reaction to the steri-strips and an infection at the incision site due to the reaction...so the doc told me to concentrate on getting better. After two weeks on hardcore antibiotics, I am starting to get better, but I'm hungry and my stomach growls at me. Not to mention that after losing weight, now I am gaining some of it back. Can't bring myself to adjust my ticker...any advice my knowledgeable banders!!!!!!!:smile2::crying:

I was banded a month ago 5/18 and had been feeling the same way. Losing a bunch preop and gaining most of it back within the first month.

I went for my 4 week post op and first fill. I had kept 6 lbs off and my body fat had reduced 3 pts. I could eat anything and everything for the last 2 weeks. The doctor ended up telling me he was proud of my results and decided to fill me 4 cc's.

I definitely have restriction now and have lost 2 lbs in the last 4 days.

Be patient. The first month is focused on healing your body.

I gained weight on mushies and was starving as well. Then I started eating meat and getting fills and I started losing 2 pounds a week. Don't worry it will get better.

And on a side note, I never raise my ticker. I consider any weight gain as "bounce" those pounds are so new they will be easy to get rid of its those really old pounds that are 20 years old that are hard!

Something to consider: liquid moves right out of you---and solids linger in your digestive tract. Just that, alone, adds to the number on the scale.

I know it's tremendously frustrating, but you're not adding body fat.

Your body is retaining Fluid for a number of surgery, anesthesia, and healing reasons.

You might see a blip upward due to the fact mentioned above, that food has mass and weight and hangs around long enough to be measured on the scale.< /p>

If you're eating the right things, you will lose body fat.

At this stage of the game, being hungry is normal and expected. It seems like lots of us were/are unprepared for it, but it's part of the game.

As you get restriction, it becomes SO much easier.

In your shoes, I'd try to eat as if you had restriction, even though it's difficult. It will allow you to lose some weight as you wait for restriction.

But if you can't do that, it's okay. You will get there. You WILL gain restriction, and you WILL lose weight.

It's just a longer process than many of us like!

Thank you all so much for your response and generous support. I have truly appreciated all of the input and consideration. i'm trying so hard to be good, but I have been dealing with some pain issues and you don't always reach for broccoli when you are in pain. And I am having a hard time feeling when I am getting full. It doesn't hit until later and then I have tremendous pain, especially on my left side...not necessarily where my port is...all of this is so different than I thought it was going to be and I am looking forward to my first fill!

I recommend eating slower to help with the too full feeling. Once you have restriction you will have to eat slower and that will help automatically but for now if you will use a timer, take a bite, chew,chew,chew and then wait until 1 min has passed before taking another bite that will help with getting too full before you get the signal. It also gives you a chance to listen to your body before you take another bite. Good luck. :smile2:

ETA: We all do this sometimes, I ate a 1/4 of a Reuben sandwich Sunday evening and didn't allow for the bread to expand so 10 min later I was in pain and spitting.
