I have actually done pretty well I seem to drop about a pound a day but cant help feeling a little depressed. Will things get better can anyone share how they felt the first two weeks post opt.

The medication that they pumped into you can cause you to be depressed. Also being on a liquid diet that long can do things to your mind. I can't tell you that things will get better as I was just banded Tuesday but by reading other posts, I am optimistic.

First...{{HUGS}}...I was exactly where you are. Depression set in about a week after the surgery. I kept comparing EVERYTHING to what everybody else was doing. I think that was my main problem. I wasn't healing fast enough, I wasn't losing fast enough, when I started losing, I wasn't looking as good as some other people would. My jeans were still tight. You name it.

And while I can't say that goes completely away, I can say that it gets BETTER. After all, you're going through a major life changing transition here - give yourself a break!! Just remember that you are unique, and your experience with the band is YOURS. Don't compare/contrast yourself with anyone else, surround yourself with supportive people, and think positively - you're on your way to a healthier you!!

Like another poster said, that liquid diet does a number on your mental faculties. If it doesn't go away after you start solids again, you may want to talk to your doc.

It's definitely all part of the process. It will be over soon, so keep your head up. Just think that in time you'll be losing weight and on your way to being healthy.

I am now going on 11 weeks out from surgery. I had three definite periods of feelin "blue" and grumpy within the first month of surgery. frown.gif

I did not have a difficult surgery or a lot of gas pain. I did not have much, if any hunger, and yet I still had mood changes. I could not pin it on hunger or pain, but it was very real. I feel I was very well educated about the process, but the depressions after surgery was a bit of a surprize for me. I did not expect it to be soo much. I think the fact that I was really pumped up before the surgery after waiting for 18 months made it even more obvious.

I think it is normal just due to surgery, anesthesia, and diet change. If you are not as lucky as I was and hunger a lot, I am sure it would be much worse.

It goes away. :smilielol5: It seemed to lift after a few days for me each time. However, at the time it was very uncomfortable and seemed to go on forever.

Hang in there. This is a BIG life change. You and your body are making lots of changes all at once. Be kind to yourself, let yourself grieve the loss of your friend and support (food), and indulge yourself (with something besides food). Talk to friends, do something you like to do, keep busy. It gets better and you do get back to a more balanced, normal life again.

If you keep being down and grouchy, go talk to someone in your bariatric program. It may help and certainly can't hurt.

Keep your eye on the prize and you will get through this phase!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
