AZArmyWife36 0 Posted June 18, 2010 Hello! Here we go again! Looks like I'd have to gain 22 lbs in order for insurance to pay for surgery. Spoke with the doc and he doesn't think it's a good idea to gain the weight. My other option is to self-pay and it's about $12K. Not sure on what I can do?? Not even sure Tricare would cover the fills and office visits. I'm so frustrated and angry! Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance!!! BB
Rsilversea 2 Posted June 19, 2010 Not much I can offer except DON'T gain the weight! It's not worth it. Tricare (which is woefully behind the times) is in the process of changing their policy. I don't know when they will change it but when they do, you can always re-apply.
my3sons963 0 Posted June 19, 2010 Hi, I have Tricare and was approved immediately. My BMI is only 36 but I have sleep Apnea. I think that is why I was approved so fast. If you have not done the sleep study for sleep apnea, I would recommend it. That may get you approved. I would NOT gain the extra weight. I had my surgery this Wednesday 6/16 and am just not feeling better. Good Luck
AZArmyWife36 0 Posted June 19, 2010 Thanks so much for the words of advice! Fortunately, I do not have sleep apnea. I had a sleep study in 2008 and everything came back okay. I do not want to gain anymore weight. Maybe I'll just wait for some kind of change in Tricare's policy. Thanks again!
