Anesthesia - Post Surgery

Recommended Posts

Are there any questions you now have that you wish you would have asked the anesthesiologist at the time of surgery? Did you have any problems with the anesthesia?

I just had my surgery on Monday. No problems at all except for an unexpected asthma attack post op.

Not sure if that was from the vent or the anesthesia, but I did need a nebulizer treatment in the PACU. I told them I was having trouble getting a deep breath and they confirmed my oxygen level was low. Once I had the treatment, I felt a million times better.

No problems at all. I went down easily and emerged easily--very easily. (In fact, I was still intubated when I emerged; no biggie---they recognized I was aware, reassured me, and extubated.)

My concerns about anesthesia were really put to rest by the pulmonologist; I knew I could withstand it. The duration of anesthesia is so short that it just didn't frighten me. I think I told the anesthesiologist to make sure my heart kept beating--apparently he did his job quite well because it continues to do so

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
