When can I stop measuring 4 oz.?

Recommended Posts

I am one week post op and I'm not really measuring out 4 oz. per hour anymore for liquids. I'm finally feeling a little bit like myself again (energy is coming back!) and I find I am getting very very very thirsty. So I just drink when I am thirsty. Little sips at a time. But its possible the total is more than 4 oz. I am on mushy foods already, and that I am measuring out. I forgot to ask the nurse about that when I was on the phone with her today, but does anyone know about that? I am definitely not eating much but just getting really thirsty...

Thoughts?

The drinking guideline is a minimum rather than a maximum. If you are thirst drink - it's not going to do any harm.

Agreed! Definitely 4oz is a minimum. I'm not hungry at all yet, but I have not limited my Water intake in any way. I just take small swallows all the time, and I'm taking in probably close to 2 gallons a day. Staying hydrated is really important, and if you're feeling thirsty, then you're probably already a little dehydrated -- drink more!

You don't want to guzzle, but frequent small swallows get that Fluid in pretty quickly too.

I was told by the nutritionist that the drinking isn't that impt. until you are eating solid food. It's all kind of the same until then. Good Luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
