Becca29 0 Posted June 18, 2010 Hi im Becca, Ive been just loving these forums. They are so informative, i just read and read and read and read...lol. I am having my surgery next month. I have about 80 pounds to lost to be at my goal. I am super excited and feel i have done so much research i am as prepared as i can be i guess. Is there anyone out there that has reached goal with a bmi smiliar to mine and how long has it taken you? Is it true that low bmi'rs have a much harder time losing. I would love to see some before and after pics...they are soooo exciting and motivating for me! Thanks everybody:biggrin:
Band_Groupie 3 Posted June 18, 2010 Hi Bekka- I'm not too far off...I started with a 37.7 BMI and lost 100 pounds/now a 22.2 BMI. I got to my goal of 90 pounds at 10 months post-op and reached my dream goal of 100 at 13 months. LeighaMason 19 Posted June 18, 2010 I read a recent study on a government health website that stated low BMIers get the best results from the band. That being said, the lower your weight gets the slower it is to come off. I started at 2 pounds a week and I am down to 1 pound every 10 days. But I figure these last 10 pounds have been with me so long they don't want to leave without a fight.
Jachut 487 Posted June 18, 2010 There is quite a bit of evidence that the band works better for lower BMI patients. I lost weight pretty easily and I consider 100lb in about 18 months fast weight loss. Its not spectacular but to lose steadily for that long was miraculous to me! I started with a BMI of 36 and ended up at 21/
AlienBandit 10 Posted June 18, 2010 My bmi was 33 when I started. In total I am hoping to lose about 75 pounds. I am due to be rebanded next month and hope to lose the last 10 kg ( 20ish pounds). I didnt have any problem losing the weight and luckily I didnt gain any weight back even though I went without a band for 5 months
Dirtroads 0 Posted June 18, 2010 So glad to see this thread! My current BMI is 36 but I have HTN, Pre-DM and PCOS. I am hoping and praying that my insurance will approve lap banding for me. This thread has been very encouraging, thank you!
