Having Lap band surgery end of July 2010

Recommended Posts

Hello, is there anybody out there that is having LAP-BAND® surgery at the end of July or around then? I would love to find someone that's has the same surgery on the same day. I don't actually have a certain date yet because my last weigh in is July 6th then my insurance has 72 hrs to approve or not approve it. Then I will have a date!! I am really excited and want to really get into this and do things right. It would be so much fun to have someone to talk to that's going thru the same thing at the same time. So, if your interested let me know.

Though I was originally banded last October I am getting a new band ( as mine was removed) in July.

I feel like I forgot everything about how to eat with a band. Hopefully it is like riding a bike but I am sure there will still be come challenges. My blog talks all about my experience when I first got banded and I have found I am reading it again just to give myself a refresher on what life was like when I first got banded.

Yeah!!!! Sounds like we are all going to be doing this around the same time. We can talk to each other everyday for encouragement. I have NEVER been on a website and talked to people other than FB, so I really don't know what I am doing or how I'm supposed to do it.:) I dont even know what a "thread" means.

Well, I am having a 2nd surgery to place my band on Aug 2nd. My 1st was April 3rd and I had too much scar tissue so they had to bring them down and then wait a couple of months to heal. I have all the same scars though, so it looks like I had the surgery but there was no band when I woke up! But I can't wait for Aug to get here. Although, I have lost 10 lbs since my surgery which was just a little more than I gained before my surgery!! Good luck to all of you!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
