How do you get all of your protein in?

Recommended Posts

I can do one Protein Shake a day but not two, but if I must I must. I just want to get an idea of what some of y'all are doing to get all the Protein you need in each day. Thanks

I just eat normal food - no Protein shakes.I have no problems getting in adequate protein especially as lots of food that you don't consider to be protein foods also contain protein.e.g 2/3 cup of oats has 4g protein,1 slice of bread has 2g etc.

I try to focus my meals around Protein. For Breakfast I'll make a veggie omelate with egg whites for extra protein and less fat and calories. lunch and dinner I'll have a turkey burger with grilled onion on it and some veggies, or turkey chili with Beans which provides Fiber and protein, or chicken or fish with veggies. I'm not ready for raw fruits and veggies as per my nutritionist but I would eat grilled chicken salads. Since I have no fill yet I snack on yogurt which also has protein. I do eat carbs like whole wheat toast once in awhile but try to limit that. I do supplement with Isopure ready to drink, half a bottle gives me an extra 20g of protein a day.

I supplement my diet with Isopure Ready to Drink as well. I will sip on a bottle througout the day--one bottle contains 40g of Protein. I try to get the majority of my protein by eating tuna, turkey(deli slices and turkey burgers), eggs and Beans. The Isopure has been a great help--I just can't do the shakes anymore--I am "protein-shaked" out!!..LOL!!

I drink a Protein shake in the morning for breakfast, but the rest of the day, I'm just eating regular food. Most of my Protein comes from meat (mostly chicken or turkey as I can't eat seafood (allergic) and don't usually eat red meat). I get some protein from veggies, but not much.

Eating 3 to 4 grams of chicken for lunch and dinner, along with the morning Protein Shake, gets me to 70-80 grams of protein a day.

Detour Bars - I get the crispy caramel. 30 grams of Protein and they are beyond yummy!! Go w/the low sugar one.

Then I make a gallon of the Crystal Lite Protein drinks. I think it is 8 or 9 grams of Protein per serving and you can always add splenda to make it sweeter.

I dont drink Protein Shakes unless I get done working out with a trainer, which is 2x a week.I usually have no problem getting in 100g. I eat a lot of chicken and turkey! Pretty much everything I eat has Protein in it, I pay alot of attn to that.

I still have a Protein shake for breakfast everyday. I tend to be tighter in the mornings, so it works out perfectly. To avoid them being too high calorie, I make them myself w. skim milk, a piece of frozen unsweetened fruit and whey powder. Besides my shakes, I live of of fish, chicken, or veggie burgers. These are all packed full of Protein. All in all, I tend to get 90+ grams a day.

Best,

Lauren

I probably eat less Protein than a lot of people here, its just not such a focus in Australia, I'd get 60 grams a day though. I dont find I have to do anything special to do that other than make sure I dont fall back into pre op habits of a very carby diet that includes a lot of bread and cereals and not a lot of meat.

I do make sure each meal contains a Protein source AND a complex carb. I dont count protein though.

I do often have a liquid breakfast but I wont do Protein shakes, I'd rather make an egg flip, or blend a banana and some Peanut Butter into some skim milk.

I lost weight, never lost hair and I have muscles, I just dont really think protein is the issue its made out to be.

I drink a Protein Shake first thing in the morning that has around 35 g of Protein. It's really easy via chicken and tuna to get the rest in and still allows me some room for fresh fruit and veggies! Oh and I add Greek Yogurt which is 15 g of protein all by itself.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
