Im so upset and I need to vent. I was to have my last appt with my surgeon today scheduled at 4pm. I have my last of 6 classes that I have been required to do by insurance tonight at 6. I just recieved a call that my surgeon was called out of the office and my appt is canceled for today. I was rescheduled a whole MONTH from today. I was hoping that was when I would have my surgery.. a month or so from today. Now... it will be pushed even farther away. Just more time for me to be stuck struggling this this horrible thing. I was recently diagnosed with sleep apnea a week ago. Likely due to my weight. I have had and still continue to have sleepless nights. I am considering looking for another surgeon... but I do not want to start this whole process over again. How long did it take everyone else from start to surgery day??

i would think that changing surgeons would add a ton of time. My 6 months turned to 9 months due to different delays by the pros. I survived. There is nothing to keep you from eating well until then. life doesn't start with surgery.

I had my first appt on Feb 3rd, and my surgery was June 14th. When I went in for my appt right after I got approval I was pretty disappointed that they scheduled my surgery for 2 months out, I was hoping to have it sooner as well. You should tell the office that you will be calling every morning to see if they have any cancellations, and that you will take that appointment.

I went to my seminar in November and had surgery on Monday. My surgeon has a very busy practice and doesn't schedule surgery until insurance approval has been received by the office.

I had my consult with him at the end of March, waited 2 weeks for his letter of medical necessity, another 2 weeks for BCBSIL to approve me, another week for the scheduling person to call me and then 4 weeks for surgery.

Hang in there, it will happen.

Thank you all so much for your supporting replies. It makes me feel much better knowing that someone is reading what I post and understands where I am coming from. So I was able to reschedule with the surgeon for the 30th. However he is so busy they are booking surgery out till the end of Aug. right now. Even then I need to do a 10 day protien shake diet and bowel prep before surgery as well.. Im dissapointed but it is ok... it will happen...

You are right, it will. I was seriously bummed when i had to deal with the delays. but now i can look back and say that it was fine. a month or two is nothing in the big picture.

You could try talking to whomever does the scheduleing in the office. They usually can help in that situation and sched your pre-op testing etc. That's what I did and I ended up getting banded 1 month early. Hang in there! You are doing all good things. Just try to help the Drs office get a "lil more organized" when it comes to your health care. It can be done!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
