I posted earlier that last Thursday I had my second fill and they added 1.5cc. The next day I had 1 cc taken out because I couldn't even swallow my saliva after a couple of hours.

Then yesterday, I went back and they took out another .25cc because I could barely get thick liquids down (i.e. Atkins Shake). So I have 4.25cc total in my band.

I can now swallow liquids a little better, but I have a really hard time with anything else. The doctor recommended yogurt, applesauce and pudding. I can only take 2 or 3 bites and I am uncomfortable. Liquids take a while to get in but I can get them in over the day.

Will it continue like this? Will it get looser and I will need more of a fill - or what? I am not sure about all this.

When I got the band, my expectation would be that I would be able to eat most foods, but give up some that were commonly difficult ( bread, beef and such) but this is really hard. I have no hunger but I really am so limited in the food choices right now.

Yesterday the doctor said it was "odd" that I had such restriction with so little in my band. So what does that mean?

I am sure this is just a phase of the band that I am going through, but I wish I could figure it out a little better.

I have restriction and i have .25cc in my band. If I had as much as you I think I would be having the same issues!

Mom, you have a sensitive and reactive stomach like I do. Your swelling will go down and as you lose wt the fat around your stomach under the band will melt and the band will get looser, less restrictive. I have been going through something similar and since I can get fluids dow I decided to ride the wave and lose as much as possible for now. Beware of switching to slider foods, though. Please keep posting about how you are doing.

Mimi

I just went yesterday and got .5 cc's to get to 8.5 cc's in a 10 cc band. I wish I would have trouble eating certain foods because everything seems to go down just fine. I haven't lost the weight that I wanted and it seems to be coming off slowly but that is what the doctor wants. I just wish it would be sooner than later. Just take your time and enjoy the restriction because eventually it might seem that you do need another fill and you have plenty of room for more saline to be added so just go with the flow and enjoy this experience. I wish food wouldn't look so appetizing to me and 2-3 bites and I was full but it seems like a cup of food and I am good for about 3-4 hours. You will get there just be patient.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
