HAL380 0 Posted June 15, 2010 (edited) Removed due to redundancy Could have said over redundnacy, but that would have been redundant Hal Edited June 15, 2010 by HAL380 made misteak in first post
HAL380 0 Posted June 15, 2010 They look like they are spelled right to me. Ouch - you got me  I should have said we need a syntax checker Regards Hal
AshlyLin 0 Posted June 15, 2010 I will confess the words confuse me. I also get confused about choose and chose:eek:. Other mispelled words do bother on here I am usually typing so fast and I get lazy and do not want to check my spelling. I notice in texts messages a lot more. I am a teacher so I completely understand always noticing. Now that I think about it I might need a typing class:tongue:.
elcee 3,341 Posted June 15, 2010 Their r ltz of words which get mispelt on this cyte. however does it reely mater? It is a weight loss support site not an english grandma site! Most of the time I know how to spell but I can't type as fast as I think which leads to errors.Sometimes I fix them sometimes I can't be bovvered! A spell check would make no difference. And lets face it this is an American website so most of you can't spell anyway(hell now I'm deep in S...T)! LOL The error that always annoys me most is sliming. slim + ing is something that I want to be doing, that's why i got the band. I think what most people mean is slime + ing slimeing. Now a tool that could put text into paragraphs would be really useful. there is nothing more offputting than reading a post that is written as one long paragraph. Most of the time i get bored and give up.

I think what most people mean is slime + ing slimeing. . I believe sliming is right. Like dining. It's not spelled dineing. You drop the E when you add ING. And to become more slim would be spelling slimming.
elcee 3,341 Posted June 15, 2010 I stand corrected. Hanging head in shame. Time for me to go back to school, my grammar teacher would be horrified. My excuse - too much time living in South Africa and Australia and too many years of using spell checker. My few remaining grey cells are obviously befuddled! tnwhite2001 2 Posted June 15, 2010 I agree! It drives me crazy!
elcee 3,341 Posted June 15, 2010 You drop the E when you add ING. But of course it wouldn't be English if there wasn't at least 1 exception to the rule. No wonder English is such a hard language to learn(even for those of us that profess to speak English - yes myself included) If, however, you are adding "ing" to the present participle of verbs like "singe," "tinge," or "dye," you keep the final (silent) "e." Hence we have "singeing," "tingeing," "dyeing," and "eyeing." (This dyeing has to do with changing the color of something; when spelled "dying," it's a loss of life.) Amazing how many ways I can find to avoid doing something useful like housework!
finallyncontrol 1 Posted June 15, 2010 And then you have people out there like me who have had a stroke and had to relearn how speak, spell and get their memory back. I do use the spell checker or it would be a lot worse. These words will get past the spell checker because the spelled right, just when I am phonetically saying the word it just might come out wrong. All I can say is I try my best. I used to be a fabulous speller up to three years ago...now it is something I work on daily!! Sorry if I offend anyone. LeighaMason 19 Posted June 15, 2010 I have a confession, my spelling is so bad that sometimes spell check has no idea what word I am trying to use and I have to think of a synonym.
elcee 3,341 Posted June 15, 2010 And you also have those for whom English is not their first language. High levels of literacy should not be a prerequisite on a band support site. We are here to offer support and guidance not to spell check!
HAL380 0 Posted June 16, 2010 I am at a lose - loose for words. No matter our country of origin, or our BMI, why does the IMPORTANCE of our mission excuse sloppines or slovenly speech?? Precision of speech, commniciation is the heart and soul of transmission of intelligence. Lazy mental process is inexcusible (sp?) Good night Hal
